Bundesliga 2 side Bochum have parted company with head coach Dieter Hecking and managing director for sport Dirk Dufner.

Hecking and Dufner leave the Ruhr district side following the club’s poor start to the Bundesliga 2 season, which has left them in 16th place with only three points from their opening five matches.

In a statement on the club’s official website, Bochum said the decision to relieve the pair of their duties was made “following a thorough analysis of the sporting situation”.

It added: “Bochum would like to thank Dieter Hecking, who took over the Blue and Whites in a precarious situation and stabilised them last season, and Dirk Dufner, who only moved to Castroper Straße in April, for their commitment and wish them all the best for the future.”

Former Wolfsburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Hamburg boss Hecking was named head coach in November last year but was unable to help the club avoid relegation from the Bundesliga.

Bochum beat Elversberg 2-0 in their opening game of the 2025/26 campaign but have since lost four successive games in Germany’s second tier, going down 1-0 at Paderborn on Friday evening.

U19 coach David Siebers, who has been with the club for 11 years, will take charge of first-team duties until further notice.
