2. Bundesliga
Elversberg have named former Hoffenheim reserves head coach as their replacement for Horst Steffen, who recently joined Bundesliga club Werder Bremen.
Wagner takes the reins after Steffen led Elversberg to a third-placed Bundesliga 2 finish and into the 2024/25 promotion play-off, where they suffered a 4-3 aggregate defeat to top-flight outfit Heidenheim. The 39-year-old has signed a three-year deal through to 30 June 2028.
"We extensively analysed Vincent Wagner, his footballing style and his personality," said Elversberg sporting director Ole Book. "With everything he brings to the table, he fits in very well with us. He combines technical expertise with creative approaches and a bold style of play that we like to see in Elversberg. Vincent will not only continue our current path, but also enrich and develop it with new energy."

A defender in his playing days, Wagner won the 2024/25 Regionalliga title as coach of the Hoffenheim reserves, securing their promotion to Germany's third tier in the process. He oversaw 102 games across his three seasons at the helm, having previously held assistant and youth roles at Rot-Weiss Essen, Duisburg and Bochum.
"The opportunity to coach Elversberg is incredibly exciting. A lot of positive things have happened here in recent years that I can take on board, but there is also room for my own ideas," Wagner explained. "Elversberg as a club are developing all the time, which makes it all the more exciting. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and getting started."
Promoted as 3. Liga champions in 2023, Elversberg embark on their third successive season of Bundesliga 2 football when the 2025/26 campaign kicks off on the weekend of 1-3 August.
