Greuther Fürth have announced the double hiring of Jan Siewert as head coach and Stephan Fürstner as sporting director.

The pair join three weeks after previous director Rachid Azzouzi and coach Alexander Zorniger were dismissed following a 4-0 defeat to Nuremberg in the Franconian derby.

Leonhard Haas stepped up from the under 23s to take the coaching role on an interim basis, but has now made way for Siewert.

Speaking at his unveiling, the former Mainz, Huddersfield Town, Borussia Dortmund reserves and Rot-Weiss Essen coach said: "I'm approaching the task with great confidence because I'm convinced that we can not only master this difficult situation, but also emerge from it stronger.

"I'm looking forward to working with the team, especially because we will have the opportunity to get to know each other in depth over the next few days.”

Club legend Fürstner has returned as sporting director.

Fürstner, who previously played for Fürth, added: "I'm full of energy. I'm sure that we will stick together at this club, even in this difficult situation. We have a lot of expertise here and I'm convinced that if we distribute the responsibility across different shoulders, for example in the areas of scouting and squad planning or in the close integration with the youth performance centre, we will be able to develop our full potential."

Fürth, who were last in the Bundesliga for the 2021/22 season, currently sit 13th in Bundesliga 2 with 13 points from 12 games. Siewert will look to end their two-game losing streak on Matchday 13 against Karlsruhe.
