Fürth part ways with Alexander Zorniger

The 4-0 loss to Nuremberg was Alexander Zorniger's last as Greuther Fürth head coach.

Greuther Fürth have dismissed head coach Alexander Zorniger, replacing him with U23s boss Leo Haas on a short-term basis through to the winter break.

Fürth went unbeaten through their first five competitive matches of the 2024/25 season, but last weekend's heavy derby loss to Nuremberg leaves them winless in five, and down in 12th in the table.

Having taken the job in October 2022, Zorniger oversaw 67 matches, leading the Clover Leaves to 12th- and eighth-placed finishes. His assistant, Jurek Rohrberg, has also left the club, along with sporting director Rachid Azzouzi. Academy chief Stephan Fürstner has been placed in temporary charge in Azzouzi's stead.

"This was probably the most difficult decision I have had to make during my time in office," admitted Peter Köhr, chairman of the supervisory board at Fürth. "Rachid Azzouzi has made a great contribution to the club and has always carried out his duties with passion and dedication, and we are very grateful to him for that. We're convinced that a fresh start from a sporting perspective is required. We'll take all the time we need to shape our future the right way."
