Results
Schalke 1-0 ElversbergGoals: 1-0 Kuruçay 4’
Schalke put in another fine defensive display to see off promotion rivals Elversberg as Hasan Kuruçay’s fourth-minute goal proved enough for all three points. Elversberg had their moments, but in the end they were unable to break down the Royal Blues as the hosts held out for their sixth clean sheet of the season. The result sees the Royal Blues stay in second place, two points adrift of Paderborn at the summit.
Kaiserslautern 0-1 Hertha Berlin
Goals: 1-0 Schuler 20’
Luca Schuler scored his third goal of the season as Hertha beat Kaiserslautern for their third straight league win. After Schuler broke the deadlock inside 20 minutes, the woodwork rode to the hosts' rescue to deny teenager Kennet Eichhorn. Kaiserslautern came out for the second half showing renewed hunger, but it was Fabian Reese who went closest, forcing Julian Krahl into an excellent save. The Red Devils thought they had an equaliser when Mika Haas lobbed Tjark Ernst, but Toni Leistner was on hand to clear the ball off of the line before Ivan Prtajin fired the rebound over. The Croatian then had a goal ruled out for offside in stoppage time as Hertha moved level on points with Lautern and within three of the promotion places.
Magdeburg 0-1 PaderbornGoals: 0-1 Klaas 9’
Paderborn maintained their lead at the top of Bundesliga 2 as they narrowly defeated bottom side Magdeburg away from home. The visitors took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes through Sebastian Klaas’ effort from outside the area, but that was arguably against the run of play in a half that was dominated by the home team. However, they were unable to make that pressure count, and following Paderborn’s significant improvement after the interval, they were able to hold on to the three points without too much danger. The victors have now won their last eight league matches, while Magdeburg are four points from safety.
Hannover 2-3 DarmstadtGoals: 0-1 Corredor 5’, 1-1 Okon 18’, 2-1 Oudenne 33’, 2-2 Corredor 50’, 2-3 Akiyama 90’+4
In a frantic game where the woodwork was struck no less than six times, Darmstadt eventually overcame Hannover thanks to a 94th-minute winner from Hiroki Akiyama. Killian Corredor opened the scoring on five minutes, but Hannover fought back to lead at the break thanks to goals from Ime Okon and Kolja Oudenne. Corredor then grabbed his second five minutes after half-time, before Akiyama sealed all three points at the death in a game that could have gone either way.
Arminia Bielefeld 4-0 KarlsruheGoals: 1-0 Grodowski 45’+1 (pen.), 2-0 Momuluh 46’, 3-0 Momuluh 51’, 4-0 Sarenren Bazee 60’
Bielefeld extended their unbeaten Bundesliga 2 run to three games as they breezed past Karlsruhe courtesy of a 4-0 victory. The first half was a quiet affair until the brink of half-time, when Joel Grodowski converted from the penalty spot after Maximilian Großer was pulled back in the penalty area. The three points were secured within 15 minutes of the restart as Monju Momuluh netted a brace, before Noah Sarenren Bazee completed the scoring with an hour on the clock.
Holstein Kiel 1-0 Fortuna DüsseldorfGoals: 1-0 Davidsen 57‘
Kiel claimed their first win since September in a hard-fought contest against a similarly struggling Fortuna outfit, who are now also without a win in their last five. The visitors dominated the first half, with Storks custodian Jonas Krumrey repeatedly bailing his side out of danger. However, while the story was about holding on for Kiel, they improved in the second, and Kasper Davidsen put them in front around the hour mark. Once again, Fortuna went in search of a response, but a composed defensive display from Kiel was rewarded with three valuable points.
Dynamo Dresden 1-2 NurembergGoals: 0-1 Lubach 1’, 1-1 Kother 45’+1, 1-2 Janisch 51’
Dresden's wait for a first home win of the Bundesliga 2 season continues as they suffered a narrow defeat against Nuremberg. Der Club needed just 14 seconds to grab the opener - the quickest goal in the second tier this term - as Rafael Lubach fired home. However, during an otherwise tepid first half, Dominik Kother equalised on the brink of half-time to give Dresden momentum heading into the second half. Nevertheless, the visitors restored their advantage within 10 minutes of the restart through Tim Janisch, and Dynamo could not find an answer. The win is Nuremberg’s second in a row, while the home team remain in the relegation zone.
Greuther Fürth 1-0 Preußen Münster
Goals: 1-0 Dehm 90’+5
Second-half substitute Jannik Dehm scored deep into added time as Fürth snatched victory against mid-table Münster. Greuther’s Noel Futkeu had a first-half goal chalked off by the VAR in a game that only really sprung to life late on. Home goalkeeper Silas Prüfrock tipped a Jorrit Hendrix effort onto the woodwork with three minutes of normal time remaning, before Greuther substitute Aaron Keller had a breakaway effort ruled out. Moments later, Dehm drove in from the edge of the box to give the Clover Leaves their first win since 19 September and some breathing space towards the bottom of the table.
Eintracht Braunschweig 0-2 Bochum
Goals: 0-1 Lenz 7’, 0-2 Onyeka 73’
Braunschweig have now lost three consecutive Bundesliga games as they were defeated by visitors Bochum. Cajetan Lenz provided the away side with an early lead from a corner, but the goal would only preceeded one-way traffic from Braunschweig, who – despite their best efforts – couldn’t find a response. Bayer Leverkusen loanee Francis Onyeka secured all three points in the second half before Sebastian Polter squandered the opportunity for a consolation from the spot in the final minute of the game. As Braunschweig struggle, Bochum are now unbeaten in four under Uwe Rösler.
