Matchday 14 results
Hannover 3-0 Karlsruhe
Goals: 1-0 Chakroun 68’, 2-0 Pichler 70’, 3-0 Bundu 77‘
Hannover followed up last week’s success against high-flying Paderborn with another convincing victory, this time at home Karlsruhe. The hosts dominated the early exchanges, but the scores remained level at the break. Marvin Wanitzek nearly caught out goalkeeper Nahuel Noll from the halfway line after the restart, but it was substitute Husseyn Chakroun who would break the deadlock. His goal caused the floodgates to open as Hannover scored three in nine minutes to boost their promotion hopes.
Schalke 2-1 Paderborn
Goals: 0-1 Curda 38’, 1-1 Karaman 45’+3, 2-1 Lasme 86’
Schalke overtook Paderborn to claim top spot in a thrilling top-of-the-table clash. The visitors started the stronger of the sides, consolidating their advantage towards the end of the half thanks to Laurin Curda’s headed opener. Kenan Karaman responded minutes later with a vital equaliser just before the break. The Royal Blues emerged with renewed vigour, though it looked as if it may not be their day after Moussa Sylla’s goal was ruled out for offside, until substitute Bryan Lasme chipped home a late winner to secure all three points.
Magdeburg 3-0 Nuremberg
Goals: 1-0 Zukowski 73‘, 2-0 Zukowksi 90+5’, 3-0 Breunig 90+10’
Red card: Lubach 76’
Nuremberg started the brighter of two sides, but without creating anything of note. The hosts grew into the half, and arguably ended it as the better side. After a delayed start to the second half, play resumed, as did Magdeburg’s positive momentum. The hosts scored a deserved opener through Mateusz Zukowski, before being handed a further boost just moments later with Rafael Lubach’s sending off. Zukowski scored his second around 20 minutes later, before his replacement Maximilian Breunig added to Nuremberg’s misery mere moments after joining the action to make sure of the points.
Arminia Bielefeld 1-2 Preußen Münster
Goals: 1-0 Grodowski pen. 8', 1-1 Batista Meier 32' 1-2 Schneider o.g. 89'
A late own goal proved to be the decisive moment in an uneventful second half to seal a win for Münster at their regional rivals and move them up to ninth. In a frantic first period, Joel Grodowski gave Arminia an early lead from the spot before Oliver Batista Meier clinically capitalised on a mistake by the Bielefeld defence to level.
Holstein Kiel 0-1 Hertha Berlin
Goals: 0-1 Kownacki 75'
The Old Lady picked up a fifth straight Bundesliga 2 win without conceding to further enhance their promotion hopes. In a game of few chances, Dawid Kownacki - back in the fold following a two-month injury layoff - made the most of his opportunity by heading home the winning goal with just 15 minutes remaining. It's back to the drawing board for the Storks, meanwhile, after a second successive loss.
Greuther Fürth 0-3 Bochum
Goals: 0-1 Sissoko 9', 0-2 Sissoko 13', 0-3 Hofmann 17'
The visitors stormed into a stunning three-goal lead that left hosts Fürth bewildered for the remainder of this encounter. Ibrahima Sissoko's quick-fire first-half double had Bochum soaring before the quarter-hour mark, while Philipp Hofmann netted a third to cement the away side's dominance. The result leaves the Cloverleaves down in 17th, while Uwe Rösler's men climb to 12th.
Eintracht Braunschweig 2-0 Kaiserslautern
Goals: 1-0 Marie 34', 2-0 Yardımcı 49'
A goal in each half helped Eintracht to bounce back from four straight losses and move out of the bottom two. The Red Devils were never at the races at the Eintracht-Stadion, and there was little surprise when they fell behind to what was only Max Marie's second-ever goal in Bundesliga 2. Erencan Yardımcı made sure of the home win with a well-taken second shortly after the restart.
Honours were shared as Elversberg stretched their unbeaten run at home to six games, playing out their first goalless draw of the campaign. There were plenty of chances, with Isac Lidberg hitting the bar for the hosts in the opening exchanges before Younes Ebnoutalib forced Marcel Schuhen into an excellent save. In a physical battle, Luca Pfeiffer’s deflected effort from 30 metres midway through the second half almost opened the scoring, but despite chances at both ends, neither side were able to find the net as Darmstadt extended their unbeaten run to four games.
Dynamo Dresden 2-1 Fortuna DüsseldorfGoals: 1-0 Rossipal 45’, 2-0 Vermeij 53’, 2-1 Rasmussen 84’
Dresden claimed their first home win of the season against Düsseldorf. Shortly after Cedric Itten hit the post with a superb header, Alexander Rossipal fired the hosts into the lead on the stroke of half-time. Vincent Vermeij then doubled Dresden’s lead by producing a deft chip to beat Florian Kastenmeier. Christian Rasmussen halved the deficit for Düsseldorf with a flying header at the back post six minutes from time, but the visitors were unable to find an equaliser as they suffered a third successive defeat away from home.
