Matchday 4 results

Nuremberg 0-0 Paderborn

After three consecutive defeats to start the season, Nuremberg managed to come away with a point at home to Paderborn with a much improved display. Mohamed Alì Zoma was a constant threat for the hosts, who had some encouraging moments of their own amidst a tough battle against Paderborn. The visitors could have had a penalty after an error from Tim Janisch, but VAR overturned the decision, before also seeing a Steffen Tigges' headed goal ruled out for offside.

Hertha Berlin 0-2 Elversberg
Goals: 0-1 Ebnoutalib 5', 0-2 Ebnoutalib 59'
Red cards: Gechter 77'

It was another difficult run out for Hertha on Friday evening against a sharp Elversberg side. On his starting debut, Younes Ebnoutalib was on fire for the visitors, with two well taken finishes in either half piling the misery on the home side. A late Linus Gechter sending off after two yellows provides added to the cpaital club's woes.

Holstein Kiel 1-2 Hannover
Goals: 1-0 Harres 21’, 1-1 Ghiță 62‘, 1-2 Källman 69’

After a tense opening 20 minutes of few opportunities for either side, it was Kiel who struck the first blow. An in-swinging cross from Tolkin found the right boot of Phil Harres, who found the bottom corner of the Hannover net. That didn’t discourage Hannover, though, who rattled the crossbar through Maurice Neubauer before the break. They went one better in the second half, with Virgil Ghita getting them back into the game with a brilliant header, giving them the confidence to go get a second, which fell the way of Benjamin Källman. He notched the 96ers’ second headed goal of the afternoon to give them yet another win in their superb start to the Bundesliga 2 season.

Bochum 1-2 Preußen Münster
Goals: 0-1 Mees 27’, 1-1 Hofmann 43’, 1-2 Mees 49’

In a lively game, the headlines were stolen by two stunners from Joshua Mees as Preußen continued their solid start to the season. Mees opened the scoring with a delightful curling effort after 27 minutes, before Philipp Hofmann equalised just before the break. Mees then added a second shortly after the restart with a thunderbolt from range that proved a deserving winner.

Eintracht Braunschweig 1-1 Arminia Bielefeld
Goals: 1-0
Conteh 64', 1-1 Young 89'

A late equaliser from American Isaiah Young salvaged a point for visiting Arminia Bielefeld at Eintracht Braunschweig, where the hosts looked on course for a third win of the season until that 89th-minute leveller. After a goalless first-half, during which Braunschweig had an effort disallowed, the home side finally took the lead through a superb Christian Conteh solo effort just after the hour mark. They'd done well to restrict Bielefeld all afternoon but their resistance was finally broken by Young as he bundled home to snatch his side a point.

Fortuna Düsseldorf 0-0 Karlsruhe

Karlsruhe remain unbeaten in all competitions this season as they played out a goalless draw at Düsseldorf. The encounter was lacking in clear-cut opportunities, with Hans Christian Bernat's save from a Shinta Appelkamp header the closest either side came to a winner. Karlsruhe's miserly defence, which has now not conceded in over six hours of football, kept Düsseldorf at arm's length for the majority of the match as the hosts' two-match winning run came to an end.

Magdeburg 4-5 Greuther Fürth
Goals: 0-1 Futkeu 24', 1-1 Ahl Holmström 28', 1-2 Klaus 63', 2-2 Ahl Holmström 64', 2-3 Futkeu 69, 2-4 Klaus 77', 3-4 Griebe 83', 4-4 Pesch 90'+3, 4-5 John 90'+8Red card: Nollenberger 71'

A game that will live long in the memories of all present at the Avnet Arena was ultimately won by a Greuther Fürth side who held their nerve at the death to end 10-man Magdeburg’s brave fightback. With both sides enduring mixed starts to their respective campaigns, it was impossible to predict a winner prior to kick-off. However, when the Cloverleaves took a 4-2 second-half lead after the hosts had Alexander Nollenberger sent off, the three points looked destined for the visitors. Yet, incredibly, Rayan Ghrieb and Noah Pesch had Markus Fiedler’s men on terms as added time ticked by. Fürth’s Marco John would have the last word, though, restoring the visitors' lead with a smart finish in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

Dynamo Dresden 0-1 Schalke
Goals: 0-1
Karaman 84' (pen.)

Christoph Daferner had the best chance of a cagey first half after getting on the end of a teasing Kofi Amoako cross, but former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius produced a fine save to deny the Dresden frontman from close range. Clear-cut openings remained few and far between in the second period, but Schalke were gifted a golden opportunity to claim all three points when Kenan Karaman was tripped by Amoako inside the area with six minutes remaining. Karaman kept his composure from the spot, sending Tim Schreiber the wrong way to earn the Royal Blues their third league win in four games.

Kaiserslautern 3-1 Darmstadt
Goals: 0-1
Lidberg 62', 1-1 Skyttä 84', 2-1 Alidou 90'+1, 3-1 Raschl 90'+7

It was a case of history repeating itself for these teams at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion after Kaiserslautern summoned a late fightback to take maximum spoils to the delight of the vociferous home support. On Matchday 33 last season, the Red Devils turned a 1-0 deficit against Darmstadt into a 2-1 victory, and Torsten Lieberknecht’s charges reproduced that feat here, scoring three times after the 84th minute. Isac Lidberg had put the previously unbeaten Lilies ahead in the second half, before Kaiserslautern took flight from the moment Naatan Skyttä netted. Fellow FCK substitute Faride Alidou edged the hosts in front in stoppage time, before Tobias Raschl sparked wild celebrations with another Lautern goal at the death.
