Fortuna Düsseldorf 2-2 Cologne

Cologne were left frustrated after dominating a game they will feel they should have won. The visitors twice led through Eric Martel and Linton Maina, but were pegged back when Emmanuel Iyoha netted and then Jona Niemiec scored in the fifth minute of added time. The result means Düsseldorf remain unbeaten and at the top of the standings. 

Schalke 3-5 Darmstadt

In a Bundesliga 2 match that will be remembered for years to come, Darmstadt pulled off an astonishing comeback to defeat Schalke 5-3 at the Veltins-Arena. Schalke seemed to be cruising with a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Tobias Mohr, Moussa Sylla, and Ron Schallenberg. However, Fraser Hornby's penalty gave Darmstadt hope before halftime. The second half saw an incredible turnaround, with Isac Lidberg netting a hat-trick and Sergio López sealing the win. The match was further dramatized by two power outages coinciding with goals, adding to the extraordinary nature of this encounter.

Kaiserslautern 2-2 Hamburg
Goals: 1-0 Ache 33', 2-0 Tachie 50', 2-1 Glatzel 58', 2-2 Selke 90'+5

Hamburg completed a dramatic stoppage-time comeback to gain a useful away point at Kaiserslautern. The visitors started strongly but were stunned by Ragnar Ache clipping an Erik Wekesser cross in to open the scoring. The boosted Red Devils then made it two shortly after the restart as Richmond Tachie turned in after a ball clipped across from Aaron Opoku. A Robert Glatzel header from a corner halved the deficit for Hamburg before Davie Selke also struck in the air at the end of stoppage time after a barrage of late pressure.

Nuremberg 0-2 Hertha Berlin
Goals: 0-1 Scherhant 37’, 0-2 Dárdai 90‘

The hosts started brightly, hitting the bar in the opening two minutes. But Hertha grew into the game, confidently dominating possession within 20 minutes. They went into the lead before half time thanks to a tidy finish from Scherhant, on the end of a lovely assist from Maza, which took out three FCN defenders. Possession continued to be all Herthas, alongside the better of the chances and the lionshare of them too, but Nuremberg looked dangerous on the counter. But Hertha managed to put the game beyond all doubt in the 90th minute, who broke through FCN’s defensive line, got on the end of another threaded pass from Maza, and got past the keeper to make it 2-0. There was no doubt that it was a deserved victory for the visitors, with Nuremberg simply not creating enough chances, and that brings Hertha’s win tally up to three for the season.

Paderborn 2-1 Hannover
Goals: 1-0 Kostons 9', 1-1 Kostons 19' (o.g.), 2-1 Ansah 77'

Paderborn secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Hannover 96 at the Home Deluxe Arena. Koen Kostons opened the scoring for the hosts before inadvertently equalizing for Hannover with an own goal. Ilyas Ansah, making his first Bundesliga start, netted the winner in the 77th minute and, while Hannover's Hyunju Lee hit the post, the visitors never really looked like equalising for a second time. The result means Paderborn are still unbeaten this season and also sees them move three points ahead of Die Roten in the table.

Eintracht Braunschweig 2-0 Greuther Fürth
Goals: 1-0 Phillippe 33’, 2-0 Phillippe 60‘

Following last week’s 1-1 draw away to Darmstadt, an unchanged Braunschweig team came into this one still searching for their first win of the season against an unbeaten Furth side. The hosts started strongly, finding joy down the left side. Phillippe was busy from the beginning for Eintracht and popped up with a goal in the 33rd minute – a ruthless finish into the top right corner. 1-0 down at half-time, Furth made three changes, but they didn’t have the desired effect as Phillippe scored another, heading in a rebound. The hosts could have scored more, ending the game with an xG of 3.59 to Furth’s 0.55. The visitors made it easy for them, but in the end it was a deserved win for Braunschweig.

Elversberg 1-3 Ulm
Goals: 0-1 Reichert 28’, 0-2 Higl 60’, 1-2 Schnellbacher 62‘, 1-3 Strompf 77‘

Hosts Elversberg came into this one looking to get back to winning ways after their last outing against Greuter Furth ended in a 0-0 draw. As for their visitors, bottom of the table Ulm were searching for their first win of the season, having taken just one point from their opening five matches. Elversberg set the tone of the game from the start, controlling the early stages and dominating possession of the ball throughout, whilst Ulm relied on quick counter-attacks. But a penalty was awarded for the visitors after Rohr brought down Krattenmacher, which was coolly dispatched by Reichert into the bottom left corner. Ulm led against the run of play but continued defending resiliently for the remainder of the half. They doubled their lead at the hour mark courtesy of Higl, who got his third of the season by catching the keeper off guard and beating him at his near post from a free-kick taken about 20 metres out. Elversberg responded almost instantly with Schnellbacher getting on the end of a dangerous cross to grab his third of the season. But it proved to be just a consolation as Ulm consolidated their lead in the 77th minute thanks to a set piece routine that Strompf managed to head home from. Despite the possession and xG going Elversberg’s way, Ulm held on to get their all-important first win of the season.

Magdeburg 2-2 Karlsruhe
Goals: 1-0 Amaechi 5’, 1-1 Jensen 24’, 1-2 Wanitzek 30’, 2-2 Hercher 78’

This top-of-the-table clash between two undefeated sides was electric from the outset. Magdeburg showed their intention with their high, energetic counterpress. It resulted in the first goal of the game, as Amaechi picked Beifus’ pocket in the penalty area and beat the keeper from close range. Despite Magdeburg’s intensity and dominance in possession, Karlsruhe responded clinically when Jensen, who was stood in the Magdeburg penalty area, received a cut back from the left and dispatched it from 11 metres out. Minutes later, it was Wanitzek this time who found himself on the end of cut back from the right, curling the ball expertly into the top right corner from the edge of the box. But Magdeburg kept battling, despite Karlsruhe digging in. They were rewarded in the 78th minute thanks to a looping header from Hercher. And still they pressed on, searching for the all-important winner and hitting the cross bar in the 90th minute. But it wasn’t to be. Both teams remain unbeaten.

Jahn Regensburg 0-3 Preußen Münster
Goals: 0-1 Grodowski 29’, 0-2 Makridis 60‘, 0-3 Friðjónsson 71’

This match at the lower end of the table saw Regensburg hoping to overturn a run of three consecutive losses, whilst Münster were still chasing their first win of the season. A feature of the game was the similarity of the goals scored by Münster, each coming from a cross from the right into a man running unmarked into the middle of the box. Grodowski got the first in the 29th minute, against the run of play at the time. It was his first of the season. Regensburg thought they had equalised towards the end of the half, but Kühlwetter, who finished, was judged to be offside. After the restart, Makridis doubled the visitors’ lead at the hour mark. Not long after, the third goal was scored by Friðjónsson who was arriving at the back post to finish emphatically. Whilst the hosts dominated possession, too many squandered chances and mistakes at the back meant that newly promoted Münster came away with the three points for their first time in the Bundesliga 2 in over 33 years.
