HSV's blip continued with Tim Walter's men going down to Osnabrück - allowing St. Pauli to leapfrog them with a win against Schalke while Hertha Berlin won a thriller at Holstein Kiel.

Matchday 7 results

Osnabrück 2-1 Hamburg
Goals: 0-1 Glatzel 12', 1-1 Engelhardt 16', 2-1 Diakhite 39'

Looking to bounce back from last weekend's loss against Elversberg, Hamburg enjoyed the perfect start at the Stadion an der Bremer Brücke. Robert Glatzel latched onto a Laszlo Benes through pass and finished tidily for his fifth goal of the season. Hammered 7-0 by Hannover on Matchday 6, bottom-of-the-table Osnabrück responded quickly to going behind via Erik Engelhardt's powerful shot to the corner. The previously winless hosts now with the wind in their sails, Oumar Diakhite gave the team from Lower Saxony a deserved lead six minutes before the break. HSV failed to find a response thereafter, meaning the Red Shorts have plenty to ponder in the coming days, although they remain in the top three.

Magdeburg 1-1 Paderborn
Goals: 0-1 Grimaldi 35, 1-1 Castaignos 85'

After an even opening to proceedings at the MDCC Arena, Paderborn forward Adriano Grimaldi gave the visitors the lead with a goal that had originally been ruled out for offside. Much to the delight of Lukas Kwasniok's side, a VAR check ruled that Grimaldi's effort should stand. Magdeburg improved after the restart but had to wait until five minutes from time before substitute Luc Castaignos netted a deserved equaliser following some fine work by Baris Atik. Castaignos then spurned a glorious chance to win it with a header that flew narrowly wide at the death.

Greuther Fürth 4-3 Karlsruhe
Goals: 1-0 Lemperle 5', 1-1 Bormuth 7', 2-1 Abiama 13', 2-2 Wanitzek 25', 2-3 Stindl 45', 3-3 Abiama 45', 4-3 Michalski 64'
Red card: Green 56'

The ten men of Fürth joined Karlsruhe on eight points in the standings following a remarkable game at the Sportpark Ronhof. The hosts offered up quite the spectacle on the occasion of their 120th birthday and after a frantic finish to an end-to-end first half, went into the break on level terms with the visitors at 3-3. When USMNT international Julian Green saw a second yellow for the home side after the break, things looked to have taken a turn for the worst for the Cloverleaves. Not so. Tim Lemperle sent in a corner in the 64th minute and Damian Michalski converted to seal a day of celebration for Alexander Zorniger's team.

Eintracht Braunschweig 2-2 Nuremberg
Goals: 1-0 Ujah 29', 1-1 Okunuki 38', 1-2 Goller 40', 2-2 Ujah 64'

Anthony Ujah netted a double to prevent Eintracht from suffering a second successive loss. The Nigerian forward opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark with a header that stunned the mid-table visitors. Cristian Fiél's team responded and would end up taking the lead before the break, Kanji Okunuki and Benjamin Goller both netting in quick succession. In the 64th minute, Florian Krüger picked out Ujah with a long pass which the 32-year-old controlled and then finished to earn his side a share of the spoils.

Wehen Wiesbaden 0-2 Elversberg
Goals: 0-1 Jacobsen 20', 0-2 Faghir 77'

Elvserberg made it three wins in a row with a victory against fellow promoted side Wehen Wiesbaden. Morale was high among the visitors following last weekend's triumph against promotion-hopefuls Hamburg and the visitors opened the scoring in the 20th minute at the BRITA-Arena. Thore Jacobsen found the net from the penalty spot to get Elvserberg up and running. Wahid Faghir later settled the contest in the 77th minute, the substitute calmly nutmegging goalkeeper Florian Stritzel.

St. Pauli 3-1 Schalke
Goals: 1-0 Hartel (21'), 1-1 Polter (29'), 2-1 Hartel (57'), 3-1 Boukhalfa (90'+2)

St. Pauli continued their unbeaten start to the season thanks to Marcel Hartel's double against Schalke. The home side enjoyed the better first half and deservedly went ahead when Hartel scored from the penalty spot after a Lino Tempelmann handball. Their lead was short-lived, however, as Schalke equalised against the run of play when Sebastian Polter provided the finishing touch to Thomas Ouwejan's cross. Hartel set Pauli on course for their third league win of the season shortly before the half-hour mark with an eye-catching drive in off the post, before Carlo Boukhalfa sealed the points in stoppage time, condemning Schalke to a fourth defeat of 2023/24. The hosts leapfrog local rivals Hamburg into second.

Holstein Kiel 2-3 Hertha Berlin
Goals: 0-1 Prevljak (27'), 0-2 Bouchalakis (39'), 1-2 Pichler (54'), 2-2 Skrzybski (57' pen.), 2-3 Reese (90+2' pen.)
Red card: Schulz 90+7'

Hertha edged a thrilling encounter in Kiel to take their third win of the season. The visitors from the capital raced into a two-goal first-half lead with Smail Prevljak heading in on his first start for the club and Andreas Bouchalakis pouncing on the rebound after another Prevljak effort. A pair of strikes from the hosts suddenly brought them level in the second half before Haris Tabaković had a chance to pinch a win with a late penalty. He missed, but Hertha were awarded another spot kick in stoppage time and Fabian Reese converted cooly against his former club to seal the points.

Fortuna Düsseldorf 1-1 Hannover
Goals: 0-1 Teuchert (7'), 1-1 Tzolis (59' pen.)

Fortuna remained on top spot with a draw against Hannover moving them a point clear of the chasing pack. Cedric Teuchert fired the visitors in front in the opening stages, and Hannover had chances to double their lead before the break. Christos Tzolis scored from the spot to level with his fifth goal of the season and opportunities came - and went - for the hosts to take a win. Hannover remain two points shy of the leaders in fifth.

Kaiserslautern 3-1 Hansa Rostock
Goals: 1-0 Raschl (3'), 2-0 Kraus (17'), 2-1 Brumado (29'), 3-1 Ache (83')

Kaiserslautern moved up to fourth with a fourth win in five Bundesliga 2 matches. Tobias Raschl dispatched a long-range effort in the opening stages before Kevin Kraus headed in to double the lead. Junior Brumado pulled a goal back though to keep things tense going into the second period before Ragnar Ache turned the ball in during the final stages to condemn Rostock to their third loss in a row.
