Key stats

Guðjohnsen has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Hansa, following spells in Iceland, Italy, Denmark and Sweden. The 6'2" striker scored 18 times across 70 competitive appearances for Elfsborg, including twice in his last outing for the club, in the Svenska Cup second round. In terms of goals-per-game, it's his best ratio since a breakout stint at Breiðablik, where he scored seven goals in 28 games back in 2017/18.

Between times, Guðjohnsen found the back of the net for Spezia (three goals/ 24 apps), Ravense (one goal/ 11 apps) and Odense (two goals/ 15 apps). The left-footer has been a fully fledged Iceland international since March 2021, scoring in friendlies against South Korea and Sweden.

Plays a bit like: Mario Mandžukić

Tall, with a deft touch, but above all at his best in and around the opposition's six-yard box, Guðjohnsen is a goal poacher in the mold of Bayern Munich's 2012/13 treble-winning No.9, Mario Mandžukić.

Sveinn is continuing a proud family tradition of playing football professionaly. Dad, Eidur, is Iceland's record scorer and a English Premier League and UEFA Champions League winner. Hansa's new forward isn't the first member of the Guðjohnsen family to represent Iceland at senior international level.

What they're saying

"Sveinn was already on our radar in the summer transfer window, which makes the deal all the sweeter. He's the complete striker and will be a real asset in our fight to stay in the league." - Hansa sporting director Kristian Walter following Sveinn's January 2024 transfer
