1) History on their side

Although Bayern haven't lifted the Supercup since 2022, they are the competition's record winners in its current guise, taking the spoils eight times in 13 appearances.

What's more, the Supercup typically favours Bundesliga winners (eight triumphs) over their cup counterparts or the league runners-up (seven wins).

Bayern also have the head-to-head edge, with 95 wins to Stuttgart's 38 in 162 competitive meetings (29 draws) between the southern German rivals - including home and away last term.

2) View from the top

The manner in which Bayern claimed their record 33rd Bundesliga title gives the Bavarians even more reason to be confident.

The Munich side lost just two league games over the course of 2024/25, registering a hugely respectable 82 points. As well as they best goal difference (+62), they also scored the most goals (99) and conceded the fewest (32).

By contrast, Stuttgart may have won the DFB Cup, but finished ninth in the league on 50 points - seven points closer to the bottom of the table than to the top, with a goal difference of +11.

3) Ka-lise

Harry Kane's league-leading 26 goals certainly played their part as Bayern wrestled back the title from Bayer Leverkusen.

With another three efforts in five games at this summer's FIFA Club World Cup, the England forward's tally for Bayern now stands at an eye-watering 85 goals in 96 competitive games.

He's also chipped in with 26 assists since making a losing debut against RB Leipzig in the 2023 Supercup. Indeed, it's the only senior competition he's played in without scoring - but probably not for much longer.

That's especially true, considering Kane has Michael Olise front and centre of the supply line.

The French wing wizard was a deserved Rookie of the Season winner in 2024/25, after producing some 12 goals and 18 assists in the Bundesliga alone.

4) Better than before

If the Kane-Olise double act isn't frightening enough, Bayern have made some very shrewd additions during the summer transfer window.

Although Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller and Eric Dier have moved on, the arrival of Germany international centre-back Jonathan Tah, young midfielder Tom Bischof and Colombian forward Luis Díaz arguably make Bayern an even more formidable all-round unit heading into Kompany's second season in charge.

Even in the injury-enforced absence of playmaker Jamal Musiala, Bayern's forward line in particular has the power to not only wear down, but blow through any opposition defence the club game has to offer.

5) Already in the groove

Bayern's pre-season performances are evidence enough of that.

After winning by the odd goal against Lyon, the Reds ran roughshod over UEFA Europa League holders Tottenham Hotspur, cruising to a 4-0 win through goals from Kane, Kingsley Coman and teenagers Lennart Karl and Jonah-Kusi Asare.

The latter pairing then did the damage in a 2-1 win away to Grasshopper Zurich as Kompany left his big hitters on the bench until the second half, with the Supercup in mind.

Bayern also went deep at the Club World Cup, a season-extending tournament that appears to have galvanised rather than depleted the record champions.
