Nübel extends Bayern contract and renews Stuttgart loan

Alexander Nübel has committed his future to Bayern until 2029.

Alexander Nübel has extended his contract at Bayern Munich until 2029 but will remain at VfB Stuttgart for two more seasons.

Goalkeeper Nübel joined Bayern in 2020 after emerging at Schalke, having made 53 senior appearances. He was viewed as the long-term successor to Manuel Neuer in Munich.

While he has made just one league appearance for the club since that switch, he clearly remains in their long-term plans. It is instead on loan that he has impressed, playing all of Monaco's Ligue 1 fixtures in the two campaigns he spent their before making the switch to Stuttgart.

There, he has featured in all but three of Die Schwaben's Bundesliga outings in 2023/24, keeping nine clean sheets along the way as he and his teammates close in on qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

“We’re pleased we could agree to a long-term extension with Alexander Nübel," said Bayern's board member for sport Max Eberl. "He’s made excellent progress in recent years and is among Germany’s best goalkeepers. He can continue to play at a high level at VfB Stuttgart. FC Bayern is superbly positioned now and for the future in the goalkeeper department with Manuel Neuer, Sven Ulreich, Daniel Peretz and Alexander Nübel.”

Nübel himself added: “I’m very happy about this decision and the trust that Bayern has shown in me. At the same time, I feel very good in Stuttgart. I want to enjoy success with VfB and take my next steps personally.”
