US coach Pellegrino Matarazzo extends Stuttgart deal
Pellegrino Matarazzo and VfB Stuttgart have agreed terms on an extension that will see the New Jersey-born tactician stay with the club until 2024.
A former youth coach under Julian Nagelsmann at Hoffenheim, Matarazzo led Stuttgart to promotion to the Bundesliga last season, and he and his side have hit the ground running this, with the Swabians closer to the European chase than the relegation battle so far in 2020/21.
"I feel very much at home at VfB," Matarazzo explained. "Together with Thomas Hitzlsperger, Sven Mislintat and Markus Rüdt, we've initiated a very positive development. I really enjoy working with all of the team. We want to take the next steps together. I'd like to thank everyone responsible at VfB for their trust and look forward to the future."
The only born-and-raised American coaching in one of Europe's five major leagues per UEFA coefficient, Matarazzo takes his side to Cologne on Saturday.
