RB Leipzig have announced that marauding wing-back Angelino is staying at the club on a permanent basis after signing from Manchester City.

The 24-year-old Spaniard had been on loan from the English Premier League side since January 2020, but last season's UEFA Champions League semi-finalists have now taken up an option to purchase the player.

Leipzig announced the deal directly after a 2-1 home win over Augsburg on Friday that put them four points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich in second place.

"Angelino is an extremely good player who is very important to our game," Leipzig head coach Julian Nagelsmann said.

"Angel played a leading role with us from the start and - even though he's already developed extremely well and quickly - there is still a lot more to come from him."

The former Spain U21 international has signed a contract that will keep him in east Germany until the summer of 2025.

The attack-minded, left-sided player made his 47th appearance for Leipzig in the victory against Augsburg, putting in a typically energetic shift. He has nine goals and 16 assists during his time with the club.

Eight of Angelino's goals have come this season. They include a stunning double against Istanbul Basaksehir in this season's Champions League group stage, as well as another strike in a 3-2 victory over Manchester United that set up next week's last-16 tie with Liverpool.
