Late Wimmer goal denies Frankfurt

Arminia Bielefeld newcomer Patrick Wimmer scored a debut Bundesliga goal to cancel out Jens Petter Hauge's opener and leave Eintracht Frankfurt winless in four competitive matches under Oliver Glasner.

Armina Bielefeld 1-1 Eintracht Frankfurt
Goals: 0-1 Hauge (22'), 1-1 Wimmer (86')

Amos Pieper’s errant back-pass almost gifted Frankfurt a goal inside 60 seconds, but Arminia goalkeeper Stefan Ortega was able to rectify the situation. Bielefeld’s No.1 was himself guilty of switching off in the 10th minute when he played a pass straight to Jesper Lindstrom, only to atone with a swift recovery challenge. It proved a case of third time lucky for Eintracht as Hauge swept in Erik Durm’s right-wing cross midway through the first half. Rafael Santos Borre ballooned over soon after, before Adam Hrustic warmed the palms of Ortega. Bielefeld showed signs of life in the closing stages, with Fabian Klos and Florian Krüger making Kevin Trapp work from range.

There was a lengthy stoppage early in the second half following an aerial clash between Frankfurt's Daichi Kamada, Ortega and Jacob Barrett Laursen. Bielefeld were taking no chances with latter, who made way as a precaution for Genoa-owned debutant Lennart Czyborra. Arminia's next attack came via the left-hand side - not with Czyborra, but Masaya Okugawa. Robin Hack took on the Japanese midfielder's slide-rule pass first time, beating Trapp but not the woodwork. Okugawa fired at the feet of Trapp as the hosts turned the screw, with Hack thrashing the follow-up wide. Martin Hinteregger produced a goal-line clearance from Hack, but Bielefeld were not to be denied. Substitute Wimmer's sensational late strike was the least they deserved.
