Finnbogason strikes late as Augsburg hold Bayern

Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry continued their incredible scoring runs, but Bayern Munich could only only draw with Augsburg following a dramatic late goal from Alfred Finnbogason.

Augsburg 2-2 Bayern Munich
Goals: 1-0 Richter (1'), 1-1 Lewandowski (14'), 1-2 Gnabry (49'), 2-2 Finnbogason (90+2')

Bayern fell behind in their shock home defeat to Hofffenheim prior to the October international break, and were forced to go about things the hard way once again at the WWK Arena. Niklas Süle and Benjamin Pavard failed to deal with a flighted ball into the box, allowing Rani Khedira to flick a header into the path of Marco Richter, who fired home on the stretch to give Augsburg the lead after just 30 seconds. Bayern lost Süle to a nasty looking knee injury soon after, before Lewandowski got his head to a precise Gnabry cross to lift the mood and continue his run of scoring in every league game this season. It was largely all Bayern for the remainder of the half as Gnabry sent a cultured volley against the woodwork and Thiago saw an effort cleared of the line, with a stubborn Augsburg ensemble somewhat fortunate still to be on level terms at the break.

Parity didn't last long into the second period, however. Gnabry collected the ball on the right-hand side, leaving Philipp Max and a trail of Augsburg shirts in his wake before arrowing an unstoppable left-footed effort into the far corner. It was the kind of goal retired predecessor Arjen Robben would have been proud of, and it might have been worse for Augsburg but for Tomas Koubek's point-blank save at the feet of Philippe Coutinho soon after. To their credit, Augsburg kept clear-cut chances to a premium during the remainder, and when Bayern did threaten a third through Kingsley Coman, Koubek was on hand with a pair of quite brilliant stops. Substitute Thomas Müller missed a glorious opening to seal the points, and Bayern were made to pay in added time as Finnbogason snatched an unlikely draw from the jaws of defeat, converting from fellow sub Sergio Cordova.
