Augsburg prove too much for Fürth

Daniel Caligiuri and Michael Gregoritsch were on target as Augsburg concluded their season with a 2-1 win over relegated Greuther Fürth.

Augsburg 2-1 Greuther Fürth
Goals: 1-0 Caligiuri (pen.) 11', 1-1 Ngankam (assist: Raschl) 24', 2-1 Gregoritsch (assist: Maier) 84'

Florian Niederlechner led the line at the expense of Gregoritsch here and nearly justified his inclusion straight away, hitting the outside side-netting with the first attack of the game. Augsburg didn't have to wait long to open the scoring, Caligiuri stepping up to stroke home a penalty that Andre Hahn had earned. Caligiuri then attempted to catch Sascha Burchert out with a direct free-kick, but the Fürth shot-stopper reacted well. The already relegated visitors struck back through Jessic Ngankam, who arrowed a low shot into Rafal Gikiewicz's far corner.

Augsburg rang the changes at the interval, with Gregoritsch and Raphael Framberger entering the fray, the former making it a front two alongside Niederlechner, but it was Fürth who tested the opposition goal next, Hahn forced to clear off the line following a penalty-box scramble. Augsburg settled from there, though, and took a deserved lead when Arne Maier slipped Gregoritsch in for his ninth of the campaign. Die Fuggerstädter then closed out the win that sees them finish the season in 14th.
