Late Lee lunge earns Mainz win

Jae-Sung Lee grabbed a last-gasp winner as Mainz extended their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 win at Augsburg.

Augsburg 1-2 Mainz
Goals: 0-1 Onisiwo 31' (assist: Fulgini), 1-1 Demirovic 35' (assist: Uduokhai), 1-2 Lee 90'+3 (assist: Aaron)

A low free-kick from Arne Maier brought the first save of the game out of Robin Zentner, but at the other end of the field, Rafal Gikiewicz was being kept busy by the Mainz attack, which included their top-scorer from last season Joathan Burkardt for the first time this term. But it was another Mainz player who put the guests in front. A long ball forward by Zentner was cushioned by Onisiwo, with Angelo Fulgini returning the ball to the No9, who slotted a shot low past Gikiewicz. Their lead lasted only a matter of minutes, though, before Felix Uduokhai's low cross was turned in by Demirovic's neat backheeled finish, earning him a memorable first Bundesliga goal for Augsburg and bringing the hosts level.

Fredrik Jensen had the first shot of the second half blocked before Mainz were awarded a penalty when Burkardt went down inside the area. Aaron stepped up to take his first ever spot-kick in the Bundesliga, but Gikiewicz guessed right and made the save, before standing up to push an Onisiwo effort away minutes later. It was a let-off for Augsburg and they looked to capitalise on it, harrying and hassling their opponents for the ball in what became something of a scrap for all three points, and it was the guests who emerged triumphant when Lee rose to meet a cross from Aaron and flick a header past Gikiewicz into the far corner deep into stoppage time.
