Augsburg break Bayer duck

Augsburg stunned the BayArena to pick up their first win of the season and first ever in the Bundesliga against Bayer Leverkusen, who are still waiting for their first point after Andre Hahn sealed the deal for the Bavarians.

Bayer Leverkusen 1-2 Augsburg
Goals: 0-1 Jensen 16' (assist: Demirovic), 1-1 Aranguiz (43'), 1-2 Hahn (83')

Augsburg created the first chance of the game when Ermedin Demirovic got round the back, but there was no taker for his cut-back. Demirovic did find a taker for a neat touch through from Iago's cut-back, and Fredrik Jensen took it in his stride and nudged the ball past Andrey Lunev into the far corner. Moussa Diaby supplied Leverkusen's first shot on goal after 20 minutes, but opportunities were at a premium for the hosts, with Patrik Schick heading their next over the crossbar after over half an hour. Another effort was charged down by the Augsburg defence, but only as far as Charles Aranguiz, who threaded a low shot back through a crowd and into the bottom right-hand corner.

A deflected Diaby shot brought a fine save out of Rafal Gikiewicz to tip the ball over the crossbar, and he kept Augsburg on terms with another excellent stop from Sardar Azmoun. The Leverkusen No9 then headed wide as another chance went begging for Die Werkself, and another Azmoun effort was blocked moments later, Aranguiz then adjudged to have committed a foul before he turned in the rebound. The pressure was mounting on Augsburg, who had Gikiewicz to thank once again for another fine save to deny Diaby, but they relieved it by taking the lead themselves. Florian Niederlechner may have drifted into an offside position, but he was not interfering as Hahn rifled a low shot past Lunev to clinch Augsburg their first ever win against Leverkusen, who have started the season with three straight defeats, including elimination from the DFB Cup.
