For the Amsterdam-born Netherlands international, who registered two goals and three assists in 15 Bundesliga appearances in the first half of the 2024/25 season, it was a first-ever visit to the west-African country.

The 24-year-old travelled to the capital city, Accra, along wtih his family and was greeted by joyful, dancing crowds upon his arrival at the airport.

"It's wonderful to come here, the atmosphere is so welcoming," he told Ghanaian television reporters. "Being in Ghana for the first time is wonderful. These are my people, I'm very happy to be here in Ghana."

After visiting a football charity and having a kickabout in a Netherlands' national team jersey, Frimpong also spent time at the 'Osu Children’s Centre', where he handed out gifts to the children.

"I always try to find time to give something back," wrote Frimpong on Instagram. "God has put me in a privileged position for a reason, so it's only right that I support where I can. I had a great time with the kids."
