Harry Kane scored his 12th goal of the season in just his seventh match while helping Bayern Munich to a 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane was jubilant after earning praise for his all-action performance as his side won Der Klassiker, while several Borussia Dortmund players and coach Niko Kovač were disappointed with their first-half showing.

Bayern Munich

Vincent Kompany (head coach): "You have to compliment Dortmund. They deserved to get back into the game in the second half. Our first half was almost perfect, very dominant. We could have scored two or three more goals. In the second half, Dortmund fought, were aggressive, and in my opinion, we played too slowly. We lost our rhythm. Nevertheless, you don't win a game like this without a cohesive team performance.

"Harry Kane's a complete player, and he showed that today by dropping into midfield and making that great sliding tackle. It's great to see him in that kind of form."

Joshua Kimmich (midfielder): "Even if Dortmund had a bit more of the game at times, it's not that easy to beat us. We impressed not only with our football, but also with our team mentality. You could see that we were putting in the effort, and that we were fighting back against adversity. Today was a very, very important win for us."

Harry Kane (forward): "Scoring in seven games in a row is nice. Consistency is key, and I'm in a good moment. The most important thing is the win today. It was a tough game, but I'm just happy to help the team with another goal. It's one of the most important games of the season with the buzz around it. It wasn't easy only having a few days to prepare after the international break, but we know what we can do against any opponents, and we showed that today."

Joshua Kimmich: "Today was a very, very important win for us."

Konrad Laimer (defender): "In the end, it's an important and good win for us, even if we could have improved a few things or scored a few goals earlier. The nice thing is that we still have room for improvement. We're on the right track, and that's exactly how we want to continue."

Borussia Dortmund

Niko Kovač (head coach): "Of course we're disappointed, both by the result and especially the first half. The second half was much better. I think the spectators still saw a good Klassiker. It's a shame we didn't make it 2-2, but we simply weren't good enough in the first half. If the second half had been a few minutes longer, we might have managed it."

Niko Kovač said his side "simply weren't good enough in the first half".

Gregor Kobel (goalkeeper): "It’s unfortunate, as we had a really good second half. It was a good fight from us and a good game. I think in the second half, we were the better team, but the first half was not enough. We didn't play as we should have, and that's why we didn't win the game."

Pascal Groß (midfielder): "I think it was a poor first half. We tried to grow into the game, but we didn't really get enough of the ball and it didn't work for us. The second half was completely different, and we had opportunities to equalise. Perhaps with the way the first half went, they deserved to win."

Nico Schlotterbeck (defender): "To get a result in Munich, you have to play with courage. We didn't do that in the first half, and didn't win any challenges. We were better than Bayern in the second half, but it was too little over the 90 minutes."
