Bayern Munich have broken Cologne's 44-year old record for the most Bundesliga goals scored in a single calendar year thanks to Leroy Sane's strike against Bielefeld on Saturday.
The goal took the record champions' total for 2021 to 102, and they still have another four games left to increase their tally further.
Bayern had moved into triple figures in their 2-1 win over Freiburg on Matchday 11, and pulled level with Cologne's best-mark the following week against Augsburg.
"It means a lot [to get the record]," Alphonso Davies told bundesliga.com after the win over Bielefeld. "I honestly didn’t think it was going to happen. But it’s a good achievement for the team, we’re happy that we can set this achievement and we’re happy for the win. It was a great strike from Leroy."
With the world's currently most prolific goalscorer in Robert Lewandowski, who scored the 101st goal of 2021 – his 38th – it is no surprise that Bayern have been so successful in front of goal this season, but they have spread the goals across many other shoulders this season.
Serge Gnabry has six, Müller and Sane have four, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Joshua Kimmich three and Leon Goretzka, Jamal Musiala and Kingsley Coman all have two.
