Harry Kane scored four times as Bayern Munich began their 2024/25 UEFA Champions League campaign with a thumping 9-2 victory over Dinamo Zagreb.
Bayern Munich 9-2 Dinamo Zagreb
Goals: 1-0 Kane (pen. 20’), 2-0 Guerreiro 33’ (assist: Musiala), 3-0 Olise 38’ (assist: Kimmich), 3-1 Petković 49' (assist: Pjaca), 3-2 Ogiwara 50' (assist: Mišić), 4-2 Kane (58'), 5-2 Olise 61' (assist: Musiala), 6-2 Kane (pen. 73'), 7-2 Kane (pen. 78'), 8-2 Sané 85' (assist: Müller), 9-2 Goretzka 90'+2 (assist: Kimmich)
It was one-way traffic from the outset at Bayern’s Allianz Arena, with Vincent Kompany’s men in utter control. Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry both had goals disallowed for offside before Kane finally set the home side on their way from the penalty spot after Aleksandar Pavlović was tripped inside the box. The dam now broken, it was only a matter of time before Bayern extended their lead, and they did so in emphatic style when Musiala brilliantly chested the ball off to Raphaël Guerreiro, who lashed in an unstoppable drive from the edge of the box. Michael Olise seemingly put the game to bed before half-time with a close-range header after a quickly taken short corner.
The visitors clearly had other ideas, however. They went on the front foot early in the second half and pulled a goal back almost straight away when Bruno Petković finished from close range following a lovely flick from Marko Pjaca. Dinamo added another just seconds later when Takuya Ogiwara was sent clean through and slotted the ball through the legs of Sven Ulreich, who had come on at the break for the injured Manuel Neuer. Order was soon restored, though, when Joshua Kimmich was given too much time to shoot from the edge of the box. His deflected drive was saved by goalkeeper Ivan Nevistić, and Kane was first to the rebound. Kane had another goal disallowed before Olise added to the scoreline, tapping in following more fine work from Musiala. Kane stole the headlines, inevitably, slamming in two more penalties, while Leroy Sané and Leon Goretzka were also on target late on to complete a resounding victory.

Gnabry fires in a shot from distance, but this time it's kept out.
The Bayern winger cuts inside from the right onto his left and shoots low and hard into the far bottom corner.
The left-back tries to get in on the action, firing in a powerful shot from about 25 yards out. It looks destined for the back of the net but Nevistić gets a strong hand to it.
Kane scores his third penalty of the night, sending the 'keeper the wrong way and surely confirming the win for Bayern.
Théophile-Catherine steps on Davies' foot, and Kane steps up again.
Despite Bayern restoring their three-goal cushion, Zagreb continue to try and close the deficit, creating an exciting second-half.
Olise settles any nerves still lingering after Kane's goal, tapping home after Musiala rounded the 'keeper following another defence splitting pass.
Having offered so little in the first-half, the visitors are now putting Bayern under serious pressure.
Just five minutes into the second-half and Zagreb have already scored two! This time, a through ball cuts right through the Bayern defence and finds Ogiwara, who finishes calmly into the bottom corner.
The second-half starts with changes for both sides. Captain Neuer is replaced as a result of an earlier collision, while Zagreb make a change in midfield.
After a one-two on the edge of the area, Pjaca gets a shot off but can't keep it down.
Zagreb will have to wait that bit longer for the half-time whistle.
The home side have been on top almost since the first whistle, with Zagreb unable to halt their continuous attacks.
Pierre-Gabriel breaks away and feeds Petković in the final third, but he loses the ball cheaply and Bayern regain possession.
Olise whips in a corner from the right which is cleared. Guerreiro picks it up and shoots wide from distance.
Bayern score through Gnabry, but the goal is chalked off for offside, and they are awarded a penalty instead for an earlier foul.
Musiala finds himself in behind the Zagreb defence again, but his cross is blocked and Zagreb clear.
The ball falls to Kane inadvertently who plays in Musiala in the area. He finishes with only the 'keeper to beat, but it's called for offside.
In typical Neuer fashion, the Bayern captain comes into midfield to clear a possible counter-attack for Zagreb and collides with Petković. Both are up and running again.
Musiala lets off a powerful drive from just outside the area, but it's straight down the 'keeper's throat.
Bayern's Champions League campaign is now underway.
Tonight's hosts have won their opening three Bundesliga games under new boss Vincent Kompany, with their most recent win seeing them score six away to the league's newcomers Holstein Kiel. Jamal Musiala scored after just 15 seconds in that game, and Bayern would love it if their Champions League campaign would get off to an equally fast start.
Bayern's opponents tonight have won four of their opening six league games, although they have failed to win their last two, drawing one and losing the other. Their only loss of the season came in their most recent game against Hajduk Split, who have former Bayern man Leon Dajaku in their ranks. Oh, and they're managed by Gennaro Gattuso.
