Konrad Laimer (l.) and Ansgar Knauff are set for one more enticing tussle when Bayern visit Frankfurt.

Eintracht Frankfurt versus Bayern Munich is one of the most exciting fixtures in the Bundesliga, featuring two of Germany’s biggest clubs. It is a game that guarantees intensity, thrills and above all else, goals, but who will come out on top in the 155th competitive edition of the fixture on Saturday?

Although Bayern have an excellent record against Frankfurt, the Bundesliga champions will be wary of the threat the Eagles could pose on Super Saturday as the two top-scoring teams in the league face off.

The Hessen club have become somewhat of a bogey team for Der Rekordmeister in recent seasons, with the Eagles having managed to take points from three of the last five meetings and five of the previous nine. That being said, the last encounter between the two sides ended in a 4-0 statement victory for Bayern at the Allianz Arena as the Bavarians went on to claim the title.

Visits to the Deutsche Bank Park have proved a particularly mixed bag for Bayern in recent seasons, with Saturday’s visitors experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions. bundesliga.com takes a trip down memory lane...

Frankfurt 3-3 Bayern (Matchday 6, 2024/25)

Last season, the two sides played out a 3-3 thriller on Matchday 6, as Omar Marmoush scored a 94th-minute equaliser. The game was a real back-and-forth affair where Bayern dominated the ball, but Frankfurt used their electric attacking talent to hurt their opponents when given the space to do so.

On the night, Bayern took the lead after 15 minutes through Minjae Kim after dominating early proceedings, only to be pegged back seven minutes later as Marmoush took Frankfurt’s first opportunity of the game.

Hugo Ekitiké then stunned Bayern by adding a second after 35 minutes as Marmoush turned provider, leaving Dayot Upamecano for dead on halfway before setting up the Frenchman to fire home. However, just three minutes later, Upamecano responded to make it 2-2 at the break.

In the second half, Michael Olise curled home a stunner after 53 minutes, and as time ticked on, that seemed to be the winner. That was until Marmoush proved the hero once again at the death, slotting home after 94 minutes to cause absolute pandemonium amongst the Frankfurt faithful.

Eintracht ecstasy: Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmöller (2 r.) celebrates the Eagles' late equaliser against Bayern.

Frankfurt 5-1 Bayern (Matchday 14, 2023/24)

In the prior meeting at the Deutsche Bank Park, Frankfurt turned on the style to demolish Bayern 5-1 in a result that sent shockwaves around the world.

The night began perfectly for the hosts as Marmoush, Junior Dina Ebimbe and Hugo Larsson fired the Eagles into a three-goal lead after just 36 minutes.

Joshua Kimmich gave the visitors a small lifeline with a stunner just before the break, but Frankfurt once again found their mojo in the second period as Dina Ebimbe added a fourth before Ansgar Knauff rounded off the rout with a fifth.

That Matchday 14 result was Bayern’s first defeat of the season, and it would prove vital as it gave Bayer Leverkusen a four-point cushion at the top. A gap that only grew as Bayern faded and Leverkusen went on to finally end Bayern’s 11-year stranglehold on the Meisterschale, finishing the season unbeaten.

Frankfurt 1-6 Bayern (Matchday 1, 2022/23)

The opening day of the 2022/23 season was the complete reverse as Bayern hammered Frankfurt 6-1. The Bavarians took the lead after just five minutes through Kimmich and didn’t let up as Benjamin Pavard, Sadio Mané, Musiala and Serge Gnabry all added to the lead before the break to make it 5-0.

In the second half, Randal Kolo Muani provided momentary respite for the Eagles as he pulled a goal back before Musiala tucked home his second of the night.

The result set Bayern in good standing for the season as the Bavarians went on to claim the title on goal difference, thanks to a Musiala stunner against Cologne on the final day, as elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund stumbled at home to Mainz.

Other notable results:

On Matchday 10 of the 2019/20 season, Frankfurt again shocked the Bundesliga champions with a 5-1 win at the Deutsche Bank Park in a result that saw Bayern drop to fourth with 18 points from a possible 30. As a result, current Dortmund coach Niko Kovač was relieved of his duties just over a year after joining Bayern from Frankfurt.

Incidentally, Kovač proved a thorn in Bayern’s side during his stint at the Eagles, leading the Hessen side to a shock DFB Cup final victory over Bayern at the end of the 2018 season.
