Lewandowski hat-trick as Bayern thump Frankfurt

Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick, Leroy Sane a comeback strike and Jamal Musiala second Bundesliga goal as Bayern Munich thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt at the Allianz Arena.

A serious-looking injury sustained by Alphonso Davies in the early stages threatened to damped the mood inside the Bayern camp following their statement win over Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, but normal service was resumed inside 10 minutes. Kingsley Coman - the star of the show against Atleti - combined with Thomas Müller to free Lewandowski in the Frankfurt penalty area, and the Poland striker made no mistake with his left-footed finish for 1-0. Bayern's imperious No.9 doubled his tally just over midway through the half with an exquisite downward header from Joshua Kimmich's corner. Andre Silva powered a header over Manuel Neuer's goalframe at the end of a rare Frankfurt foray, but the half belonged to Lewadowski who - having uncharacteristically blazed off target moments earlier - was only denied his hat-trick by a smart reaction save from Kevin Trapp.

Trapp delayed the inevitable with a pair of smart second-half saves from Lucas Hernandez and Coman, before Lewandowski added his third of the contest and record after five rounds of fixtures, 10th of the season. Bouna Sarr instigated a move that passed through the midfield and found Douglas Costa, whose cross was expertly turned home by the best striker on the planet. Coman put a fourth on a plate for Hernandez soon after, but the Bayern defender could not direct his effort on target. Sane could, Bayern's returning marquee summer signing doing his best impression of Arjen Robben with a superb inside run off the right and blistering finish into the far corner, having only been on the pitch for four minutes. After Neuer made a spectacular goal-line clearance from Bas Dost following a mistake by Sarr, Trapp thwarted Leon Goretzka and 17-year-old Musiala, who had the final say all the same with Bayern's fifth.
