Kane and Müller help Bayern beat Freiburg

Bayern Munich celebrated Vincent Kompany's first competitive game in charge at the Allianz Arena with a victory against Freiburg that saw Harry Kane register his maiden top-flight goal of the campaign on a record-breaking day for fellow scorer Thomas Müller.

Bayern Munich 2-0 Freiburg
Goals: 1-0
Kane (pen.) 38', 2-0 Müller 78' (assist: Gnabry)

Prior to kick-off, Kane accepted his Torjägerkanone prize - awarded to to the Bundesliga's top goalscorer - which he won for netting a division-best 36 top-flight goals last term. England's record goalscorer then set his sights on hitting the target against Freiburg, the only team of the 17 he had faced in the Bundesliga and had yet to score against. After home debutant Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala and Kane threatened, the latter was presented with a golden opportunity from the penalty spot. The referee checked his screen to see a Christian Günter handball from Kane's header, and the Bayern striker stepped up to slot home his first Bundesliga goal of 2024/25 from the spot.

Either side of a spectacular Manuel Neuer punched clearance and Minjae Kim's vital block from a Patrick Osterhage effort, Müller entered proceedings to become Bayern's all-time record appearance holder with 710 competitive appearances. The 34-year-old's fellow substitute, Kingsley Coman, looked to put daylight between the teams with a shot that zipped past the post. Müller would show the France international how it was done shortly afterwards, the Bayern legend controlling a Serge Gnabry chip into the box with his left, before shooting into the ground and past Florian Müller with his right. It was the 150th Bundesliga goal for the man known as the Raumdeuter. Freiburg's bad day in Bavaria was then complete when Lucas Höler skied a penalty at the death. For Bayern, it's two wins from two at the start of a new Bundesliga season.
