Musiala fires Bayern past Hoffenheim as Beckenbauer remembered

Jamal Musiala scored twice as Bayern Munich beat Hoffenheim on a night in which late great Franz Beckenbauer was celebrated following his recent passing.

Bayern Munich 3-0 Hoffenheim
Goals: 1-0 Musiala 18' (assist: Sané), 2-0 Musiala 70' (assist: Sané), 3-0 Kane 90' (assist: Goretzka)
Red cards: Prömel 74'

The Allianz Arena paid tribute to the true great of the club and the German game, Beckenbauer, before kick-off, with Der Kaiser having passed away on Sunday at the age of 78. Hoffenheim very nearly went off-script early on when Grischa Prömel crossed for Maximilian Beier, but the striker volleyed over from close range. Beier then laid Andrej Kramarić off for a shot on the edge of the box that the Croat blazed high into the stands. Both of those chances had come on the counter, with Bayern enjoying much more of the ball, and the champions made it tell midway through the half when Leroy Sané slipped Musiala in behind the defence following a short corner, and the former Chelsea youngster blasted the opener home in off the far post from a tight angle. Harry Kane played Raphaël Guerreiro in for another chance late in the half, but Oliver Baumann closed his angles down well. Kramarić then volleyed an attempt straight into Manuel Neuer's gloves before Dayot Upamecano blazed one wide at the other end, and it remained 1-0 at the break.

Bayern thought they had doubled their lead 10 minutes after the restart when Kane squared the ball for Sané to convert, but the England captain had been offside in the build-up. Kane had another chance moments later when he latched onto a Musiala through ball, but Ozan Kabak did brilliantly to recover the danger. Musiala then hit the post as Bayern piled on the pressure. Bayern's hearts were in their mouths when Kramarić found space just past the hour, but Neuer got off his line in time to make the save. The Germany No.1 then tipped a Beier shot onto the crossbar. Home nerves were settled when Musiala played a smart one-two with Sané before completing his brace from point-blank range, and Bayern's job was made easier minutes later when Prömel was then given his marching orders for a dangerous tackle. Kane headed wide before adding gloss to the scoreline with a low finish and it ended 3-0.
