Bayern Munich and Germany playmaker Jamal Musiala has returned to team training with his club as he takes the next steps in his recovery from a horror injury sustained at the FIFA Club World Cup in July.

Musiala suffered a broken left leg and ankle dislocation in Bayern's Club World Cup quarter-final loss to Paris Saint-Germain, but continues to make excellent progress on the road to playing competitive football again.

The 22-year-old has been completing exercised with the ball at Bayern's Säbener Straße training base since 17 November, and made his return to team training on 16 December, keeping him on track to return to the pitch early in 2026 - if not before.

"When will he come back? The plan was January, but we'll see," Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany said recently.

"These long-term injuries can sometimes heal a little faster, but sometimes they take longer. That's why I want to give him the necessary rest for his return."

Musiala has also been working hard on his strength training and physical conditioning.

Bayern have enjoyed a near-flawless campaign in Musiala's absence, putting together a European record run of 16 straight wins to start the 2025/26 season, whilst sitting nine points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

Bayern have one more game, away to Heideheim on Sunday in the Hinrunde, before they host Wolfsburg in their first competitive match of 2026, on 11 January.

Musiala will also hope to be part of Germany's FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign in Canada, Mexico and the USA. The newly expanded 48-team competition takes place from 11 June to 19 July.
