Bayern Munich have added to their long list of recent accolades by being named the Laureus World Team of the Year for 2021.

After winning an unrivalled sextuplet of Bundesliga, DFB Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and DFL Supercup, the Bavarians won every competition they entered over the past season, and the Laureus Sports Awards was no exception as the record champions followed up their 2014 success by winning the Team of the Year title for a second time.

They beat Argentina's Men's rugby team, the Kansas City Chiefs American Football team, Liverpool FC, the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team to the illustrious prize.

"We have won the Laureus World Team of the Year once before in 2014, so to be nominated again by so many of the international sports media is a real honour especially given the illustrious teams that have been nominated and previously won this global award," said Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. "We tried our best in this special year, and we are very proud and happy to win six titles out of six."

Not only did Bayern win six titles, they did so with unprecedented domination, becoming the first team ever to lift the Champions League with a 100 percent record, including an 8-2 win against Barcelona.

Their points-per-game ratio under Hansi Flick eclipsed those of his predecessors Jupp Heynckes and Pep Guardiola, with the German coach only taking charge in November 2019.
