With Jamal Musiala making his first start for Bayern since April after recovering from injury, Vincent Kompany's side set out to make a statement against a PSG side who had lifted the UEFA Champions League at the end of May.

That was easier said than done against a confident Parisian outfit, who fired the first shot of the game wide via Désiré Doué in the opening minutes - although Michael Olise became the first player to test a goalkeeper when drilling into Gianluigi Donnarumma's hands.

Bayern's determined display and intense pressing gave them the upper hand for much of the opening stages, and Olise forced a strong stop from Donnarumma with a potent strike destined for the top corner just before the half-hour mark. PSG still managed to show their attacking threat though, with Manuel Neuer needing to race out to deny Khvicha Kvaratskhelia after he had burst into the box.

Bayern pushed for the lead before the break with Harry Kane heading over, and Musiala almost meeting a Aleksandar Pavlović cross in front of Donnarumma. A Dayot Upamecano header was then disallowed for offside before the first period ended on a sour note as Musiala crashed into Donnarumma and was stretchered off with a serious injury.

Chances fell at either end in an open start to the second period, with Neuer denying Bradley Barcola well before Serge Gnabry was thwarted by Donnarumma minutes after replacing Musiala at the interval. Olise then flashed another good opening over before former Borussia Dortmund striker Ousmane Dembélé almost embarrassed Neuer but slotted just wide when the Bayern keeper lost the ball outside his area.

Goals seemed inevitable as the game entered the final stages, and unfortunately one fell in Neuer's net as Doué flashed a shot into the bottom corner. Thomas Müller was unable to claw Bayern back into it as a late substitute in what turned out to be his final match for the club, despite two PSG players seeing late red cards. Kane had a late Kane header ruled out for offside before Dembélé sealed the win for the French side by smashing in a second in stoppage time.
