The 62nd Bundesliga season opened with a mouthwatering clash between defending champions Bayern and perennial top-foour contented Leipzig.
Vincent Kompany's side came into the match with confidence high following their victory in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against VfB Stuttgart, while Ole Werner was making his debut as Leipzig boss in the toughest possible fixture.
The hosts were without several players including Jamal Musiala (muscle injury), Tom Bischof (appendix surgery), Alphonso Davies (cruciate ligament) and Hiroki Ito (broken foot), but their impressive depth was about to be showcased in emphatic fashion.
Bayern wasted no time asserting their authority, dominating possession with over 70% of the ball in the opening 16 minutes. The champions were relentless in their pressing, winning the ball back in an average of just 11 seconds compared to Leipzig's 27.5 seconds.
After early chances for Konrad Laimer and Kane, the breakthrough came in the 27th minute when Olise received a pass from Josip Stanišić and rifled a powerful right-footed shot into the bottom corner.
Just five minutes later, Bayern doubled their lead in spectacular fashion as Díaz marked his Bundesliga debut with a thunderous strike that crashed in off the underside of the crossbar after superb build-up involving Joshua Kimmich and Kane.
Olise put the result beyond doubt before half-time, netting his second of the night in the 42nd minute with a clinical left-footed finish after being teed up by Serge Gnabry.
Leipzig attempted to regroup at the interval, with Werner making two changes as Antonio Nusa and Rômulo replaced Yan Diomande and Loïs Openda, but the onslaught was far from over.
Leipzig briefly threatened after the restart, but were caught cold in the 64th minute when a lightning-quick Bayern counter-attack ended with Kane slotting home after being set up by Díaz.
The visitors thought they had pulled one back when Nusa fired into the roof of the net, but the goal was disallowed as the ball had been rolling when Castello Lukeba took the original free-kick.
Kane then took centre stage, curling a sublime effort into the bottom corner in the 74th minute before completing his hat-trick four minutes later, powering home after being played through by Minjae Kim.
Kane delivered a masterclass in finishing to kickstart his second Bundesliga season in spectacular style. The 32-year-old striker was the complete centre-forward – dropping deep to link play, bringing teammates into the game, and most importantly, demonstrating his lethal finishing ability with a Lupenreiner Hattrick (three goals in a single half without someone else scoring in between).
It was the England captain's third such Bundesliga hat-trick, moving him closer to the legendary Gerd Müller (seven) and Klaus Fischer (five) on the all-time list.
