Bundesliga
Alphonso Davies set a new speed record in Bayern Munich's title-clinching win at Werder Bremen on Matchday 32 of the 2019/20 Bundesliga season.
The 19-year-old Canadian was clocked at 22.7mph, overtaking Borussia Dortmund defender Achraf Hakimi's previous league-wide best of 22.49mph and officially making him the fastest player in Germany's top flight since detailed data collection began in 2011.
"I just do my job I guess," Davies told bundesliga.com afterwards. "I don’t know when it happened [breaking the speed record] but I just do my job defensively, trying to get the ball back, but I’m happy that I can break a record."
Watch: Alphonso Davies on becoming the fastest player in the Bundesliga
Davies has been called "the Bayern Road Runner" by teammate Thomas Müller, while French winger Kingsley Coman - who briefly held the Bundesliga speed record earlier in the campaign - has admitted the Canada international is the fastest player at the club.
'Phonzy' proved that beyond any doubt at the Weser-Stadion, albeit on a night of mixed emotions for the former Vancouver Whitecaps starlet.
He made his 28th Bundesliga appearance of the season as Bayern put the seal on an eighth successive league title, but was sent off for the first time in his professional career following two bookable offences.
That infraction aside, it has been an otherwise stellar campaign in the career fastlane for one of the world game's most explosive talents.
Watch: Alphonso Davies under the tactical microscope
After arriving from Vancouver in January 2019 as a winger, Davies has gone on to establish himself as Bayern's first-choice left-back and is now considered among the best in the world in the position.
A two-time Bundesliga winner, he will also have the opportunity to add a second successive DFB Cup to his budding collection when Bayern take on Bayer Leverkusen in the competition final on 4 June. What's more, the Bayern No.19 has been shortlisted for Italian newspaper Tuttosport's annual Golden Boy Award.
