The destination of the Meisterschale was decided on a dramatic final day as Bayern overturned a two-point deficit to pip Dortmund to the post on goal difference.
bundesliga.com picks out five key moments during the campaign that contributed heavily to Bayern's eventual triumph...
1) Wolfsburg 2-4 Bayern, 5 February 2023
Bayern returned from the winter break with a four-point lead at the top of the table and a nine-point buffer over Dortmund, who had struggled prior to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. However, three matches into the new year, Edin Terzic's men had cut the gap to three points, while surprise contenders Union Berlin were breathing down Bayern's necks.
Therefore, the trip to Wolfsburg, who had lost just one of their previous 11 matches before Bayern's visit in early February, could hardly have come at a worse time. The record champions, though, are often at their most dangerous when wounded, and they were devastating early on at the Volkswagen Arena, racing into a three-goal lead within 20 minutes. For the rest of the match, Die Wölfe were the better side, but, while Joshua Kimmich was sent off shortly after half-time with the score at 3-1, Bayern stood firm.

2) Bayern 3-0 Union, 26 February 2023
Having lost 3-2 at Borussia Mönchengladbach the previous weekend, Bayern went into their Matchday 22 encounter with Union Berlin well aware it was a potential banana skin on the road towards the Meisterschale – especially as both Dortmund and Union had pulled level with them on 43 points at the league summit.
However, once again Bayern found reserves when they needed them most with a display that left no doubt who was top dog. The Reds were 3-0 up by half-time and ended the game with 19 shots on goal to Union's four, having had 65 percent of possession. This was not so much a statement victory as a shout-it-from-the-rooftops one.

3) Bayern 4-2 Dortmund, 1 April 2023
The same description fits here, too. Bayern had lost 2-1 in Leverkusen on Matchday 25, relinquishing top spot to old rivals Dortmund ahead of their Klassiker decider on Matchday 26. A win for BVB would have given them a four-point lead over Bayern, not to mention the belief and momentum to go on a charge for the title.
And so once again, Bayern – in new head coach Thomas Tuchel's first match in the hotseat - set out to show them who's in charge. They were 3-0 up after 23 minutes, and a fourth goal early in the second half rendered Dortmund's late rally too little, too late in a 4-2 success. Top spot was Bayern's once again.

4) Freiburg 0-1 Bayern, 8 April 2023
Bayern had been unceremoniously dumped out of the DFB Cup at the Allianz Arena by Freiburg just four days prior to travelling to their cup conquerors, this time on league duty. The quarter-final loss had hurt Bayern and another slip-up against the Black Forest side would not have been considered too great a surprise, given their impressive displays this season, particularly on home turf.
And yet, while Bayern were far from their free-flowing best in Freiburg, where they met resolute hosts out to dent another of their visitors' trophy bids, they did enough. Christian Streich's team kept Bayern at arm's length for the majority and, as the game wore on, it felt more and more like either a mistake or something special would be required to settle the fixture. It proved to be the case of the latter, as Bayern, unable to land jabs from close quarters, secured victory via a haymaker from range. Matthijs de Light was the man who provided the unlikely inspiration, letting fly from distance with a rocket that arrowed into the top-corner and will not only go down as one of the best goals of the season, but also one of the most important.

5) Cologne 1-2 Bayern, 27 May 2023
Bayern had wrestled back top spot on Matchday 30, but a 3-1 home loss to RB Leipzig handed it back to Dortmund heading into the final win. With two points to make up on the leaders, Bayern knew they had to beat Cologne whilst hoping for a favour from Mainz at the Signal Iduna Park. Coman set them on the way after eight minutes and, with BVB trailing Mainz 2-0, the record champions were back on course. However, the drama was far from over.

Colgone equalised from the penalty spot with nine minutes remaining, sending Dortmund - now 2-1 down against Mainz - back to the summit. Tuchel threw on the cavalry, with Musiala duly working his magic to restore Bayern's lead and place atop the Bundesliga pile. There was an anxious wait as news filtered through of a Dortmund equaliser after the full-time whistle in Cologne, but there was to be no winner as Bayern got the job done on goal difference.
