Bayern Munich have announced the signing of right-back Bouna Sarr from Marseille on a four-year deal until 2024.
Sarr, 28, registered eight goals and 11 assists in 181 games across a five-year spell with Marseille and provides invaluable cover in the right-back area occupied by 2018 FIFA World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard, with Joshua Kimmich having reverted to his preferred central midfield role.
“Bouna Sarr is a dynamic right-back who fits very well with out style of play. He’ll help us in an important position,” said Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. “Sarr brings experience and stability at 28, while we also believe he’ll continue to develop at Bayern.”
The Frenchman - who featured against Bayern in the treble winners' 1-0 friendly win over Marseille in July that served as a pre-cursor to their eventual Champions League glory - could make his competitive debut for his new side in their rearranged DFB Cup first-round tie with lower-league Düren on 15 October.
“I’m very happy to have signed for such a great club as Bayern," the new man added. "It’s a dream come true for me and I’ll give everything to help continue this club’s story of success.”
Sarr originally joined Marseille from Metz in 2015 and was part of the side that reached the UEFA Europa League final in 2018. He is eligible to represent Guinea and Senegal through his mother and father respectively, as well as France as the country of his birth.
