Bundesliga
The curtain is set to rise on the 2025/26 season on 16 August at the MHP Arena where hosts and DFB Cup holders VfB Stuttgart will welcome the Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in the inaugural Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.
The annual Supercup, which features the winners of the previous season’s two domestic titles in Germany, was officially renamed in honour of the late Beckenbauer in December 2024, with the first edition bearing the German football legend’s name to be played at Stuttgart's MHP Arena.
The news comes after the DFL Executive Committee unanimously decided on the venue for next season's curtain raiser. The Kaiser’s boyhood club, Bayern, are set to compete for the Supercup for the 14th time following the one-off match’s reintroduction in 2010, after they reclaimed the Bundesliga title in 2024/25.
A DFL statement read, "By naming the Supercup after Franz Beckenbauer, who passed away in January 2024, the DFL and DFB are jointly honoring his contributions to German football. The match will debut a new, gold-infused look for the competition. The logo - which also adorns the Supercup trophy - features an iconic depiction of the Kaiser in action."
Hosts Stuttgart are contesting the Supercup for the second straight year, after losing the 2024 edition on penalties to double winners Bayer Leverkusen.
Sebastian Hoeneß led the Swabians to their fourth DFB Cup success by beating Arminia Bielefeld 4-2 in the final in Berlin on 24 May. VfB lifted the Supercup in its previous guise in 1992.
This year's Supercup will be broadcast live to around 200 countries worldwide and will kick-off at 20.30 CET on Saturday 16 August. The game will be played on the same weekend as the first round of the 2025/26 DFB Cup, meaning Bayern and Stuttgart will play their opening cup fixtures later in the month, on 26/27 August.
Bayern will kick off a new Bundesliga season on Friday, 22 August.
