HAMMER BLOW!

Villarreal retake the lead in the tie - out of nowhere. Albiol wins back possession in his own half. Moreno sprays a low pass into the feet of Chukwueze, who escapes the attentions of substitute Davies and fires into the roof of the net from close range. Can Bayern hit back?

DANJUMA OFF

First-leg scorer Danjuma's final action is to fire wide of the post from the edge of the Bayern area. He's fed on scraps all night long, such has been Bayern's dominance.

NOT FAR AWAY

Coman cuts in off the left with Bayern's 23rd goal attempt, but spins his shot over.

WIDE FROM MÜLLER!

Goretzka defends a dangerous Moreno cross, allowing Bayern to go on the hunt once more. Sane finds the unmarked Müller on the edge of the six-yard area, but his diving header is comfortably wide. Hands on heads all round - he's kicking himself for not putting that away!

ALL HANDS ON DECK

Bayern's back three are stationed midway through the Villarreal half as Rulli comes to punch clear another Sane cross. Villarreal can't get out.

ONE-WAY TRAFFIC

Bayern come again as Goretzka slips a pass in behind the Villarreal left-back for Sane. The cross is blocked out to Hernandez, who drives over from 18 yards.

ALL BAYERN

We've seen a couple more low crosses blocked, as well as an effort on the spin from Lewandowski. It's backs to the walls for Villarreal - can Bayern make their pressure count?

HALF CHANCE!

Goretzka's in behind. He crosses for Müller, but he's going to ground as he goes to shoot and can't find the target. Whatever Nagelsmann said at the break is working.

BAYERN LEVEL THE TIE!

What a start to the second half from Bayern! Müller feeds the run of Lewandowski, who controls on the edge of the area before squeezing a shot through the legs of a defender and in off the left-hand post. We're now all square in the tie. Away goals have been abolished, remember...

KNOCKING AT THE DOOR

Bayern playing with greater urgency as a Sane free-kick is blocked behind for a corner. It's worked back over to the Bayern No.10, who knocks the ball back into the danger zone. Upamecano meets it first time, but it's on his left foot and he blazes over.

vs

NOW OR NEVER

Bayern straight on the attack as Sane clips a ball into the Villarreal area. He controls on the run, but Rulli is out to narrow the angle and his attempted back heel is hooked clear. Remember, Bayern have to win on the night to have any chance of progressing...

Bayern have locked down possession, but still trail 1-0 on aggregate.

PLAYACTING

Goretzka uses his strength to hold off Estupinan, who goes down like he's been chinned by Tyson Fury. Thankfully, the referee is having none of it.

WOULDN'T HAVE COUNTED

Danjuma with the breakaway chance, but he shanks wide on his left foot before the flag goes up for offside. Warning for Bayern, who have otherwise been in complete control.

TARGET ON LEWY'S BACK

Lewandowski and Albiol collide after the Villarreal captain miscontrolled Kimmich's attempted through-ball into the penalty area. He milks it once again with his reaction. Lewandowski mustn't rise to the bait...

LEWANDOWSKI BOOKING

Lewandowski catches the shin of Albiol on the follow through. He didn't mean any harm, but the Villarreal defender's reaction did him no favours. The Bayern striker will have to watch his step now...

CHANCE!

Bayern's best opening yet. Coman switches the play to Sane, who finds Goretzka on the edge of the area. Musiala meets the ensuing cross, heading straight at Rulli and taking a bump to the temple for his efforts. Nagelsmann again is up, offering a clap of encouragement.

25'
vs

INVITING BALL

Kimmich delays and delays before sending over a cross towards Lewandowski. Rulli gets there first, though, punching clear. There's not a great deal of variety to Bayern's play, but they are asking questions of Villarreal with their wing play.

20'
vs

MUSIALA!

Coman turns his man and feeds the run of Musiala in the box. He outfoxes his marker, but hits his attempted cross - or was it a shot? - into the ground and the ball goes harmlessly across goal. Nagelsmann applauds the idea.

17'
vs

OFF TARGET

Kimmich pings in a corner, but it's a difficult one for Goretzka. On the move with one leg in the air, he can't turn the ball on target.

16'
vs

HALF CHANCE!

Sane casually steps inside and crosses into the six-yard box, but it's just behind Kimmich, who moved a touch too early. Bayern keen to use the flanks, as expected.

10'
vs

CHANCE!

Hernandez whips a ball towards the back post for Sane. He volleys a pass back across goal, but Rulli gets down to block ahead of the lurking red shirts. Goretzka's follow-up shot is blocked.

UPAMECANO SWITCHED ON

That's twice now Upamecano has halted dangerous Villarreal attacks. Neither Moreno nor Danjuma were able to get the better of the Bayern centre-back, who has made a very assured start.

5'
vs

WARNING SHOT

Villarreal enjoy a good spell of possession that concludes with Gerard Moreno pinging wide frm 18 yards. Neuer was not in the slightest bit worried by that.

3'
vs

DECENT OPENING

Musiala jinks clear in the centre of the park, before playing a pass out to Sane on the right. His cross finds Müller on the penalty spot, but he scuffs his shot straight at the goalkeeper. It wouldn't have counted, though - he was clearly offside.

LET'S DO THIS!

The Allianz Arena is bouncing as Bayern get the ball rolling. A huge night in the Bavarian capital...

Kick-off!

vs

IN THE TUNNEL

The teams await their cue. Messrs Neuer, Kimmich, Goretzka and Hernandez are deep in discussion at the head of the Bayern queue.

vs

FULL HOUSE

As there were against Augsburg at the weekend, a capacity 70,000 crowd are packed inside the Allianz Arena.

vs

GORETZKA CONFIDENT

"We'll certainly have to be better on Tuesday and we will do that," affirmed Leon Goretzka. "The place will be rocking. Then we'll deliver a performance that is Bayern-like."

vs

LEWANGOALSKI

With 85 goals in 105 appearances, Lewandowski boasts the best scoring ratio of the Champions League era (0.81 goals per game), ahead of Lionel Messi (0.8) and Cristiano Ronaldo (0.77). He scored a hat-trick in the home leg of Bayern's 8-2 aggregate win over Salzburg in the previous round, and has struck at least once in six of nine appearances in this season's competition.

vs

FORTRESS ALLIANZ

In the past three seasons, Bayern have only lost one Champions League home game, averaging over three goals per match. They haven't failed to score a Champions League goal in front of their own supporters in exactly four years, and former striker Mario Gomez thinks home advantage will be key. "We're in Bayern's stadium tonight. It's one step from the semi-finals and I think we're set for a big Bayern performance," he told Amazon Prime.

vs

NEUER: 'BAYERN NOT TO BE MESSED WITH'

Manuel Neuer believes Bayern can deliver the knock-out blow. "We have to show determination, be ambitious, and you can always count on us to do that," said the Bayern captain, a Champions League winner in 2013 and 2020. "We lost the first leg, it hurt us, but we only lost 1-0. We weren't happy with the performance, but it's the best kind of defeat you can get. We have won a lot of games in the Champions League and we know we have to win. We've done that in the past, and we're not to be messed with after we've lost a game like we did over there."

vs

PERMUTATIONS

Villarreal will be out if Bayern win by two or more clear goals - something they have comfortably managed to do in every home fixture in this season's competition (5-0, 5-2, 3-0 & 7-1) - while a Bayern victory by one will send the tie to extra-time, and possibly penalties. The winner of the quarter-final between Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool and Benfica - who finished second in Bayern's group - await in the last four.
