Bayern stunned by Bremen and former player Weiser

Mitchell Weiser scored the only goal of the game as Werder Bremen came away from the Allianz Arena with a long-awaited win - a costly loss for Bayern Munich who lose ground to Bayer Leverkusen in the title race.

Bayern Munich 0-1 Werder Bremen
Goals: 0-1 Weiser 59' (assist: Friedl)

Bayern came into this one 12 places and 24 points better off than their visitors, but Bremen gave as good as they got throughout. Harry Kane teed up Leroy Sané for an early shot straight at Michael Zetterer but Jens Stage got one-on-one with Manuel Neuer at the other end minutes later, the Germany No.1 lucky the ball was blasted straight at him. Sané saw another shot from the edge of the box sail over the crossbar before Neuer's was forced into a fine save, reacting well when Weiser's shot took a spin off Alphonso Davies. Neuer was picking the ball out of his net moments later when Justin Njinmah sprang the offside trap and finished inside his near post, but the goal was ruled out for a foul in the build-up. Neither keeper was really tested from there, although Bayern will have been the more relieved to hear Marco Fritz's whistle for half-time.

Kane, the Bundesliga's 22-goal top scorer, only had his first chance on 50 minutes - in the event his shot from the edge of the area sailing harmlessly over. Instead it was former Bayer man Weiser who broke the deadlock, the right wing-back cutting inside Davies and firing high beyond Neuer on his weaker left foot. Thomas Tuchel reacted with a triple substitution, with Thomas Müller, Mathys Tel and Leon Goretzka entering the fray, and Bayern were inches away from a leveller soon after, Kane heading wide after Goretzka's knock-on. Sané then tried his luck from range, with Zetterer saving and Bremen forcing a corner that came to nothing. A late Tel header off the post rather summed up Bayern's afternoon as Bremen held on to secure a famous win.
