RB Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer has given an update on the future of striker Benjamin Šeško amid rumours about a potential transfer away from the club.
“Due to very concrete interest from several clubs, we decided he wouldn’t play today,” said Schäfer on Saturday at Leipzig's friendly against Atalanta.
While Schäfer didn’t name any clubs or disclose figures, he hinted that formal offers had been submitted: “When I say there’s been strong interest and clubs have approached us directly, it’s obvious what that means.”
However, a transfer has not yet been finalised. “I want to make it clear that this doesn’t mean he’s already on his way to another club,” Schäfer added. “And it also doesn’t mean that Benji won’t play next week.”

Instead, the club sees the interest as “a sign that he’s on a very good path in his career.” A move remains possible and concrete negotiations are ongoing, but a breakthrough has yet to be reached.
Regarding Xavi Simons, who has also been linked with a possible departure, Schäfer stated that there is “no new development.”
His omission from the squad against Atalanta was “purely medical”. The attacking midfielder was unable to train on Friday due to neck problems.
