Champions League runners-up last season, Dortmund have impressed once again in the revamped league phase. They kicked off against La Liga leaders Barcelona with four wins from five and among the clutch of teams in the driving seat for automatic qualification to the round of 16. Visiting Barcelona, spearheaded by former BVB striker Robert Lewandowski, did create chances in the early stages, but the Black-Yellows responded in kind and might have gone in at the break in front, had Marcel Sabizter not snatched at Julien Duranville's 17th-minute cross. Serhou Guirassy also forced a strong save from Iñaki Peña, albeit from an offside position.
Guirassy did have the ball in the net after the restart, but the Dortmund No.9 was adjudged to have strayed offside when he converted Jamie Gittens' cross. Raphinha scored with Barcelona's next attack - the Brazilian finishing well folllowing smart play by former RB Leipzig man Dani Olmo - but BVB hit back almost immediately. Pau Cubarsí brought down Guirassy, who calmly slotted away the resultant penalty for 1-1. Guirassy completed his brace to cancel out a goal from Ferran Torres, but the Barcelona substitute had the final say, scoring on the counter to inflict only a second Champions League loss of the campaign on Nuri Şahin's team.

There are to be four additional minutes at the end of this half.
After a BVB corner, Groß gives the ball away cheaply and Barcelona instantly counter. A long ball finds Yamal, who quickly feeds it into the path of Torres. It looks as though the angle is too tight for the Spaniard, but he manages to squeeze it into the bottom left corner from inside the box.
Nmecha plays a long ball over to Malen on the right. He drives at the Barca goal and lets a shot fly, which Peña palms away, before the assistant raises his flag.
Guirassy brings Dortmund level again. Yan Couto spots a run from Groß in the middle of the park. He plays it through for him to run onto and Peña comes charging off his line, but Groß gets there first. The German just taps it round the keeper to Guirassy, who has an empty net to aim at and strokes it home.
Gittens immediately goes right up the other end, beating Koundé and swinging a cross in. Guirassy meets it with his head, but heads over from inside six yards.
Koundé does well to get to the byline. He cuts it back to Fermín López on the edge of the box, who shoots first time. Kobel does well to make the first save but Torres pounces on the rebound to retake the lead for his side.
Hansi Flick brings on fresh legs, in place of star players Raphinha, Lewandowski and Olmo.
A fine move from Barcelona there. Lamal plays it down the line to Raphinha, who squares it to Olmo. The Spaniard gets a powerful shot away, forcing a fantastic save out of Kobel.

The full-back sees yellow for impeding Olmo.

The midfielder picks up a yellow card for dissent.
Reyna chips it through to Sabitzer, who plays a short ball to Gittens. The winger crosses to Guirassy at the back post who pokes home the chance, but the assistant had his flag raised quickly there.

Dortmund get the ball rolling again for the second half. Nuri Şahin makes one change at half time, replacing Julian Ryerson for Yan Couto at right-back.

The Austrian picks up the first yellow card of the game for kicking the ball away after a stoppage.
This time, Bensebaini puts a cross in towards the striker, who goes down. BVB scream for a penalty, which is checked by VAR and dismissed.
Reyna floats a delicate ball from the left of the Barcelona box towards the back post, where Guirassy is arriving. He meets the header from six yards out, forcing an excellent reflex save from Peña, but it wouldn't have counted anyway - the assistant had his flag raised.
The midfielder stays down after a physical challenge from Casadó in the middle of the park. After some treatment, he's back to his feet.
The ball bounces around the BVB area and pops up for Koundé, who strikes it powerfully on the half-volley, but Kobel palms it away.
Yamal won it and Rafinha takes it short. It's worked back to Yamal, who crosses from the right, but Ryerson heads it clear.
Duranville gets down the right flank again and squares it to Reyna on the edge of the box, whose shot is narrowly wide. The assistant had his flag raised against Duranville in the build-up, though.
The young English winger finds himself in space down the left and attempts a cross in towards Guirassy, but the cross is overhit.
The Spaniard beats Bensebaini and Reyna on the edge of the box before letting a shot fly. It's powerful, but straight at Kobel and the keeper punches it away.
Duranville once again gets down the right channel and to the byline. He cuts it back into the middle, finding Sabitzer, but the midfielder snatches at the chance, sending it over the bar. That could've been the opener...
