Haaland and Reus braces as Dortmund hit five

Erling Haaland scored two of five Borussia Dortmund goals without reply against Besiktas.

Erling Haaland and Marco Reus scored twice as Borussia Dortmund breezed past Besiktas 5-0 in their final UEFA Champions League group game.

Borussia Dortmund 5-0 Besiktas
Goals: 1-0 Malen 29’ (assist: Bellingham), 2-0 Reus 45+2’, 3-0 Reus 53’ (assist: Dahoud), 4-0 Haaland 68’ (assist: Schulz), 5-0 Haaland 82’ (assist: Dahoud)

The cloud of Saturday’s defeat in Der Klassiker didn’t appear to rain on Dortmund’s parade in their final UEFA Champions League outing of this campaign. Jude Bellingham twice came close to opening the scoring for the hosts, before turning provider to feed Donyell Malen to strike home and net his fourth goal in his last five games. Dortmund doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time. Marius Wolf’s superbly chipped pass found its way to Mo Dahoud who was hacked down by Welinton - with the referee showing the Brazilian a straight red card. After a long delay, Reus stepped up and the captain stroked the ball into the corner of the net from the penalty spot to give the hosts a two-goal cushion into the break.

The second half began much like the first and a third was inevitable for Dortmund. Reus linked with Dahoud to pass their way through a few Besiktas defenders before the captain took care of the rest – dancing his way past three more defensive obstacles to tap in for his second of the game. He would not get the chance for a third, being replaced by Erling Haaland midway through the half. This was an important 27 minutes of action for the Norwegian as he prepares for the weekend’s trip to Bochum. And it took him a mere five minutes to get himself on the scoresheet, with a simple header nodded home following some clever work from Nico Schulz. Haaland then added another and Dortmund's fifth of the night with sharp thinking to react to Dahoud's corner for another headed goal. The striker almost got his third in the closing stages, but it wasn't to be.

FULL-TIME! DORTMUND 5-0 BESIKTAS

About a commanding performance as you're likely to see as Dortmund end a run of three straight Champions League defeats. Reus scored twice after Malen's opener, before Haaland stepped off the bench with a brace of his own. It's a real shame he wasn't fit for those aforementioned losses - the Norway international will have to torment defences in the Europa League instead.

HAALAND AGAIN!

Reinier helps on Guerreiro's cross into the box. Haaland catches it well enough, but can't find the target from 10 yards. He really wants his hat-trick!

WIDE FROM HAALAND!

Malen sends Haaland into the box, but he fires wide of the far post in a chance not to dissimilar to one he missed against Bayern.

HAALAND AT THE DOUBLE

Another very easy goal for Haaland, who's left all alone to head home Dahoud's corner. That's his 17th in 13 competitive games this season!

STRENGTH IN DEPTH

Bellingham sets off on one of those driving runs, before sending an effort wide from 20 yards. Guerreiro's on for the tireless Englishman, while Pongragic replaces Zagadou in defence. Rose's hand is very strong, and he still has Hazard, Moukoko and Reyna to come back.

DOUBLE CHANGE

Reus won't get his hat-trick, but Haaland might. The BVB No.9 is on for the final 27 minutes, looking to improve his record of scored 13 goals in 12 Champions League appearances for Dortmund. Felix Passlack, meanwhile, replaces Wolf.

ROLLS REUS!

Prolonged Dortmund pressure results in the third goal. Dahoud, having tested Destanoglu with an effort from a corner moments earlier, sets up Reus for his second of the contest. The interchange between the pair is fantastic, and the finish emphatic!

HALF-TIME! DORTMUND 2-0 BESIKTAS

The decision stands after a lengthy VAR review, and Reus makes no mistake from the penalty spot. Besiktas, with the exception of a few lusty challenges, have barely laid a glove on BVB. This could be a very long night for the 10-man visitors.

DORTMUND LEAD!

Malen strikes first, and you have to say it's been coming! Bellingham's the architect, driving into Besiktas territory before threading the ball down the left-hand channel. Malen holds his nerve and slots beyond the keeper, who got something - but not enough - on it.

IN IT TO WIN IT

Marco Rose has no intention of treating the game like a dead rubber, even if Dortmund have nothing tangible to play for. "Prestige is at stake, we want to end the group on a successful note," the BVB coach affirmed. "It's a case of wanting to provide a top performance even in a game like this, being present from the first minute, throwing yourself into every challenge, playing front-foot football and sending a signal that you take every game seriously and want to win."

vs

THE BEST PLAN B IN THE BUSINESS

Der Klassiker may have ended in defeat, but Dortmund can take confidence from Erling Haaland's displays. The 21-year-old has scored twice in as many games since returning from a seven-match injury absence. One of those efforts came as a substitute against Wolfsburg. Besiktas, don't say we didn't warn you...

vs

MORE ON THOSE TEAMS

Marco Rose makes five changes to the team beaten 3-2 by Bayern on Saturday. Dan-Axel Zagadou and Nico Schulz come into the defence, Axel Witsel starts in midfield, and Marius Wolf and Donyell Malen get the nod in attack. Manuel Akanji, Raphael Guerreiro, Emre Can, Julian Brandt and Erling Haaland are the men to make way. Of that quintet, only Guerreiro and Haaland are on the bench. As for Besiktas, Michy Batshuayi spearheads an experimental side playing for pride.
