Haaland orchestrates big Dortmund win

Some 25,000 fans were in attendance at the Signal Iduna Park, but it sounded more like 80,000 when Marco Reus swept in following a bulldozing Haaland run to give Dortmund the lead. A bizarre Felix Passlack own goal cooled the party mood - the Dortmund right-back side-footed past Gregor Kobel from 18 yards as he attempted to contain Rafael Santos Borre's run - but normal service was resumed just past the half-hour mark. Axel Witsel - operating at centre-back - cut out a teasing cross, prompting a blistering transition up the middle of the pitch. Gio Reyna and Reus helped the ball on to Haaland, who set up Thorgan Hazard for 2-1. Haaland got in on the act soon after, toeing Reus's flick-on past Stefan Ilsanker before racing away and finishing under Kevin Trapp. Nico Schulz made Trapp work, and Reus had an chalked off as Die Schwarzgelben cantered into the half-time break.

Kobel preserved Dortmund's two-goal advantage with a fantastic save to deny Santos Borre's header soon after the restart, but that was about as good as it got for Frankfurt. Jude Bellingham had a goal-bound shot charged down, before BVB extended their advantage with less than an hour gone. A Haaland shot across goal was deflected into the path of Reyna, who - having instigated the melee with an effort of his own - reacted quickest to control and slot beyond Trapp. It got worse still for Frankfurt as Haaland completed his brace after latching onto a Reus through-ball, the 21-year-old's composed finish standing following a VAR review. Eintracht debutant Jens Petter Hauge's late strike was scant consolation as Marco Rose's Dortmund warmed up for Tuesday's Supercup showdown with defending champions Bayern Munich in style.

• Haaland has registered 42 goals and 14 assists in 44 Bundesliga appearances.
• Reus brought up his 100th Bundesliga goal as a Dortmund player. He's scored 136 times in the German top-flight, including his spell at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
• Reyna is in his second full season at BVB. He has made 48 Bundesliga appearances, producing five goals and seven assists.
• Dortmund have won their last eight Bundesliga matches in a row, equalling the club record set under Jürgen Klopp in 2011/12, when BVB last lifted the title. Goals in 33 successive league matches is also a new club best-mark.
• Frankfurt's Borre, Hauge and Jesper Lindstrom, and Dortmund duo Donyell Malen and Antonios Papadopoulos made their Bundesliga debuts.
• New Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner has lost all five of his Bundesliga meetings with Dortmund.
