Reus sends BVB past Hoffenheim
Marco Reus scored the only goal as Borussia Dortmund booked their place in the DFB Cup round of 16 with victory over Hoffenheim.

Dortmund survived a huge scare when Ihlas Bebou forced the fit-again Gregor Kobel into a parried save inside the opening 120 seconds. The loose ball fell for Mergim Berisha in the six-yard box, but his effort was cleared off the line by Nico Schlotterbeck. BVB heeded the warning, and began to create chances of their own as Reus and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens crashed efforts wide from range. The Black-Yellows' persistence told late in the first half, when Reus swept in Bynoe-Gittens' pull-back for the opening goal, albeit with a hint of a mis-kick.
Dortmund threatened a second goal soon after the restart, but Youssoufa Moukoko's shot was too close to Oliver Baumann in the Hoffenheim goal. The visitors responded in kind, with Maximilian Beier stinging the palms of Kobel, but were unable to make any serious in-roads thereafter. Substitute Donyell Malen squandered a couple of promising openings, and Ozan Kabak was sent off for two bookable offences, as Dortmund extended their unbeaten start in domestic competition to 11 matches, ahead of Saturday's Klassiker with Bayern Munich.

Hoffenheim boss Pellegrino Matarazzo would love nothing more than to go all the way in this season's DFB Cup but the New Jersey native understands his team are facing a big challenge this evening: "I find it exciting that you can win a title in just a few games," the tactician explained. "We also know that we are not the favourites [this evening] and we need a top performance; a complete game. That's the goal, and the goal is to advance one round too."
