Dortmund stunned by Beier and Hoffenheim

Maximilian Beier struck twice as Hoffenheim completed a dramatic second-half turnaround to take a win in Dortmund.

Borussia Dortmund 2-3 Hoffenheim
Goals: 0-1 Bebou 2' 1-1 Malen 21' (assist: Reus), 2-1 Schlotterbeck 25' (assist: Reus), 2-2 Beier 61' (assist: Grillitsch), 2-3 Beier 65' (assist: Stach)

Borussia Dortmund went out confident of extending their six-match unbeaten Bundesliga run in front of their own fans. Their optimism was shaken, however, as Ihlas Bebou pounced on a misplaced defensive pass by Emre Can to take the ball into the box and tuck Hoffenheim into a second-minute lead. Dortmund responded by pushing immediately for an equaliser, with Marcel Sabitzer, Ian Maatsen and Donyell Malen all having opportunities in the opening 20 minutes. A corner then brought the hosts back on level terms, as Julian Brandt's delivery was flicked on by a Marco Reus header for the onrushing Malen to turn in. Another set piece five minutes later saw the Black and Yellow's surge in front, as Reus's clipped free-kick was dispatched into the net by a Nico Schlotterbeck bullet header at the near post. Bebou snatched a shot as the visitors saw a chance for a quick leveller, but otherwise Dortmund continued to dominate and took the lead into the break.

Pellegrino Matarazzo's men looked to take the game to Dortmund at the start of the second period, and Maximilian Beier threatened to pounce on more defensive uncertainty - receiving a Julian Ryerson pass - but flashed his shot over. Niclas Füllkrug had a chance for a third, but hit his shot too tamely. The ball came to Beier in the danger area again and this time the 21-year-old striker made it count - thanks to a big deflection from Schlotterbeck that took the ball past Alexander Meyer. Beier was then picked out by a tidy ball across the box by Anton Stach as the visitors sprung the Dortmund defence open again to push Hoffenheim into a shock lead. Reus had a shot saved and Füllkrug flashed a shot wide as Dortmund looked to respond, though Anthony Brooks also threatened from a corner for the visitors. A late spell of pressure from the Black and Yellows saw an appeal for a penalty for handball waved away before Can sent a stoppage-time header over - but Hoffenheim held firm and secured three big away points.
