Borussia Dortmund's famously loud fans lent their voices to a different cause recently - namely carol signing.

A sold-out Signal Iduna Park set a new world record at the weekend, with 73,056 Borussia Dortmund supporters turning out to sing Christmas carols.

The fifth annual "Dortmund Sings Christmas Carols" event was a memorable one, as supporters flocked to Dortmund's home to celebrate the festive season in record-breaking style.

First team head coach Edin Terzic made an appearance alongside current stars Emre Can, Nico Schlotterbeck and Sebastien Haller and ex-players such as Patrick Owomoyela, Kevin Großkreutz and Marcel Schmelzer.

They were all on hand to see BVB managing director Carsten Cramer presented with the official certificate for the club's record-breaking attempt, which was orchestarted by a number of music stars.

"On behalf of Borussia Dortmund, I would like to thank you for 2023. What you fans did was extraordinary," said Cramer. "The fans are great. Borussia Dortmund would like to thank these fans and bow to them."

In total, €100,000 was raised in 2022, and this year's carol singing is expected to deliver even more funds to a range of local charities and social movements, such as the BVB Learning Centre, the street football league Nordstadtliga Dortmund, the charity Lensing Media Hilfswerk and homeless initiative Gast-Haus e.V.
