Dortmund sign Füllkrug

Borussia Dortmund have signed Germany international striker Niclas Füllkrug on a three-year deal from Werder Bremen.

Füllkrug, 30, was the Bundesliga’s joint-top scorer in 2022/23 with 16 goals alongside Christopher Nkunku and boasts an impressive scoring rate for Germany with seven goals in nine senior international caps, including two in three at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

"Niclas has proven his scoring prowess over the years and won the goalscoring title last season. Thanks to strong performances, he is justifiably an important pillar in the national team's forward line," said Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

"Niclas is a playmaking attacker, very strong with his head, physically impressive, convincing in one-on-one duels and unpleasant for his opponents [to face]. With all these skills, he embodies the profile we were looking for," Kehl added.

Niclas Füllkrug has swapped the Green and White of Werder for the Black and Yellow of BVB.

The centre-forward leaves Bremen with a record of 49 goals in 124 competitive appearances, having helped Die Grün-Weißen back to the Bundesliga in 2022.

Füllkrug will provide competition to Sebastien Haller up front, and provide extra cover with the Cote d’Ivoire international potentially set to miss a number of games in the new year as he competes at the Africa Cup of Nations.
