Bellingham and Reyna help Dortmund down VfB

Stuttgart had enjoyed a renaissance of sorts over the past week, recording a 4-1 win over Bochum and a 6-0 DFB Cup success against Arminia Bielefeld on Wednesday in Michael Wimmer's first two games at the helm as caretaker coach. They were caught off guard early on at the Signal Iduna Park though, Bellingham slotting in from Niklas Süle's cross while many fans were still getting settled in their seats. Süle doubled Dortmund's advantage shortly afterwards, volleying in Raphael Guerreiro's free-kick from the left. There was very little to see of Stuttgart's attacking prowess that had seen them score 10 times in their last two outings, and the hosts virtually made sure of the points on the stroke of half-time, Youssoufa Moukoko finding Reyna to curl in his first league goal of the season.

Any lingering hopes Stuttgart might have had of a second-half fightback were extinguished in the 53rd minute when Bellingham scored his second of the game. Collecting the ball on the left-hand side of the pitch, the teenager danced past a couple of challenges before curling a sumptuous effort into the far corner. BVB added the icing on the cake in the closing stages, banishing memories of last week's defeat to Union Berlin, when Moukoko tapped in at the back post from Guerreiro's cross to give Edin Terzic his biggest-ever win in charge of the team.

• Bellingham's goal was the earliest Dortmund have scored in the Bundesliga since 6 March 2021, when Erling Haaland found the net against Bayern Munich.
• Süle netted his first competitive goal for BVB since arriving over the summer. He now has 14 Bundesliga goals overall, 12 of which have been scored on home turf.
• The Germany international was also directly involved in two goals in a single game for the first time ever.
• Reyna now has seven Bundesliga goals, equalling the tally his father Claudio managed in Germany's top flight.
• All seven of the USA international's goals have been with his right foot, of which six have come in home games.
• Stuttgart have not won away in the Bundesliga since 11 December 2021 (2-0 vs. Wolfsburg) - a run of 15 matches.
