Bremen late show stuns Dortmund

Dortmund started with a real spring in their step as Mo Dahoud shot wide from 18 yards inside three minutes. Amos Pieper made a crucial challenge to deny Marco Reus a sniff of Jiri Pavlenka's goal in the six-yard box soon after, but BVB's momentum stalled when Dahoud was forced off with a dislocated shoulder. Bremen only grew into the contest as Jens Stage headed a Marco Friedl free-kick just over. However, after Marvin Ducksch twice tested Gregor Kobel, BVB landed a sucker-punch on the stroke of half-time when Julian Brandt skated inside and placed a low shot from 18 yards into the bottom corner.

Brandt had the opportunity to double his tally soon after the restart, but was flagged offside as he collected Jamie Bynoe-Gittens's through-ball and swiped wide. Bremen continued to make in-roads at the other end, with Nico Schlotterback intervening to deny Niclas Füllkrug and Ducksch in the box. Kobel beat away a Ducksch volley, prompting Dortmund boss Edin Terzic to shuffle his pack with just over an hour gone. Thorgan Hazard's introduction had the desired effect as his corner was eventually picked up by Raphael Guerreiro, who fizzed in a second from 25 yards, but Werder's changes proved decisive. After Pavlenka pushed a Hazard stinger onto the woodwork, Lee Buchanan fired in off the underside of the crossbar to set up a grandstand finish. Injury-time goals from fellow substitutes Niklas Schmidt and Burke completed a sensational turnaround.
