Tel completes Bayern comeback in Gladbach

Gladbach went out looking to give their fans more to cheer about than in last weekend’s 3-0 home defeat to Bayer Leverkusen – as tough as that prospect sounded given Bayern’s confident start to the season. Indeed, it was Bayern who bossed the opening stages, with Sane clipping wide in their best early attack. Marvin Friedrich headed onto the top of the crossbar from a Alassane Plea free-kick, though, as the hosts grew into the game. Gladbach's plucky approach paid off when Itakura sent a looping header over Sven Ulreich from a corner to put them in front. Sane almost pulled Bayern level with a superb burst forward, only for Moritz Nicolas to tip his strike onto the crossbar in his first start in the Gladbach goal to take the narrow lead into the break.

Bayern came out for the second period brimming with purpose, but not finding it easy to break through a deep-lying and hard-working Gladbach side - initially, at least. Leon Goretzka had a header cleared away just in front of the line by Itakura and Thomas Müller swept off target as Bayern's pressure built. The champions were duly rewarded when Sane raced behind the defence to meet a dinked Joshua Kimmich pass and slot in nicely to level. Serge Gnabry almost made an instant impact as a substitute, but his close-range header was met by a brilliant point-blank Nicolas save. Gladbach summoned up some attacking prowess again as the game entered into its final stages, but Bayern continued to enjoy the better chances. The pressure eventually told, with substitute Tel leaping highest to head in Kimmich's corner and send Bayern level on nine points with leaders Leverkusen, whom they host on Matchday 4.

• Sane has been directly involved in the opening goal in all three Bundesliga matches of Bayern so far this season - and has netted three in three.
• Tel has scored six of his past seven Bundesliga goals as a substitute. 
• Itakura scored his second goal of the season from only his third shot.
• Tony Jantschke appeared for the first time this season as a substitute - marking his 16th consecutive season of Bundesliga action for Gladbach.
• Gladbach have lost their first two home games of a Bundesliga season for only the third time (after 1986/87 and 2015/16).
• Thomas Tuchel's Bayern conceded a first-half Bundesliga goal for the first time, in his 12th game in charge.
