Gladbach sign Omlin as Sommer replacement

Borussia Mönchengladbach have signed Switzerland international goalkeeper Jonas Omlin from Montpellier to replace the Bayern Munich-bound Yann Sommer.

Sommer completed his move to Bayern earlier on Thursday, prompting Gladbach to firm up their interest in Omlin, who has joined the Foals on a five-year contract valid until 30 June 2027.

"We believe we have found a very good solution by signing Jonas Omlin," said sporting director Roland Virkus. "He is a very reliable goalkeeper who exudes confidence, is strong on his line and is good with the ball at his feet.”

Omlin, 29, has spent the last two-and-a-half years in France, playing 74 games for Montpellier after joining the French club from Basel.

Sommer is the reason Omlin only has four international caps, with the new Bayern signing standing in the way of his successor at Borussia-Park.

Omlin last played for Switzerland in the Nations League in June 2022, and was part — like Sommer — of his country’s squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
