RB Leipzig's Dani Olmo stole the show as Spain knocked hosts Germany out of UEFA Euro 2024

After performing impressively for their clubs throughout the 2023/24 campaign, Bundesliga stars are now proving decisive on the international stage. Here, bundesliga.com takes a look at the how German football’s finest have helped light up the UEFA Euro 2024 quarter-finals…

RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo had wrapped up the scoring for Spain in their Round of 16 win over Georgia; against Germany, he got La Roja going with the opening goal only for Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz to strike late and look like he had forced extra-time. But with seconds left, Olmo sent over a cross for former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mikel Merino to head past Manuel Neuer and send the hosts out.

In Friday's other quarter-final, Neuer's Bayern Munich teammate Dayot Upamecano was in the France side that kept a clean sheet as they defeated Portugal in a penalty shoot-out. Former Dortmund man Ousmane Dembélé scored Les Bleus' first penalty.

Switzerland had kicked off the round of 16 with a 2-0 victory against Italy. While Leverkusen’s Granit Xhaka pulled the strings in midfield, it was instead Augsburg forward Rúben Vargas who was star of the show. It was his stunning strike that doubled his nation’s lead. There was nothing Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma could do as Vargas's effort nestled into the top corner.

The Swiss will face England in the quarter-finals after the Three Lions survived a scare against Slovakia. It needed a 95th minute goal from former Borussia Dortmund man Jude Bellingham to take the game to extra-time, but it was 2023/24 Bundesliga top goalscorer Harry Kane who secured the win, heading home at the back post. That was his second effort of the summer, and his recent record suggests more goals are just around the corner.
